Starting Feb. 17 and continuing through Feb. 26, all Texas bays will be closed for crabbing. Any traps left in the water will be assumed to be abandoned and considered “litter” under state law. This allows volunteers to legally remove any crab traps they find.

For those participating in the SETX Mud Run this is a good opportunity to clean up the area while running the local area. I'll give away some of my fishing club gear from my website to the boat that brings in the most crab traps.

Now that's using your head for something other than a hatrack Coe. I will join in on that.

Are we allowed to keep the traps? I need a few for my camp!

3CK, the West Bay pickup locations will be at Fat Boys.

I have a call into the Bill over at TPWD to see if we can get a pickup spot set at the Port Neches State Park so people can drop off traps after returning to the ramp from the SETX Mud Ride

Yeah I dropped them off at Fat Boys last year. Unfortunately I'm a parade official for Mardi Gras that weekend, so not sure how much I'll be able to participate this year.

what do they do w/ them ? rebuild ? recycle ?

It's 2 weekends long and includes the week days in between... So what's that 10 days total.

there is going to be a pick up site at fort anahuac, same as last year, we will have several airboats running around.
