What is the best for a decent price. Used the real with the canister didn't really like it. Thinking about the zebco 808 .And i think i won't a compound bow over a recurve what yall think

I think I've probably tried them all and the AMS Retriever reel is the only way to go IMO. The Zebco didn't like the heavy line. Also I prefer about a 50# recurve bow. Much stronger than that and you'll hit a stump and never get the arrow out, not to mention shoot all the way through the fish. A compound is harder to get off snap shots, and I never find myself holding on a fish for long anyway. Hope this helps.

The barricuda and I think AMS or PSE bowfishing compound bow doesn't have let off , so its like shooting a recurve. Being able to snap shoot is a must. Be sure to put some no-gloves on the string. It will save your fingers.

the zebco 808 will only take up to 100lb power pro line. Then you have to worry about pressing the button or it becoming caught. I have 3 ams pro reels and love every one of them. The 2 big game reels are on the compunds and my regular pro is on a PSE kingfisher recurve bow. If your just gonna be shooting reds and flounders the recurve is the way to go cause of the faster shooting times. If you want to go after shark and big gar, then stick with the compound, since you have longer to shoot. Or just buy both, JIC.

My suggestion would be find a used Oneida bow and attach a AMS reel. As ohers mentioned I too have shot about every combo on the water and I feel for day in and day out bowfishing a AMS is hard to beat. I use the Oneida but used a recurve for years. I use Muzzy tips for shooting mudfish and use Innerloc Grapplers for Bighead thumping

I started out using the 808 with 80# gorilla braid. Did ok, but after buying the AMS, I'm sold on it. Much easier, & no kickbacks from forgettin to push the button.

If you really want to do the 808 thing, there's a guy on bowfishingcountry.com that upgrades 808's. I think he'll sell you one, or you can send him one to be upgraded. I can't remember his name offhand, but a little searchin' on the site should bring it up. One thing he did was enlarge the hole for better string exit. I think it allowed for bigger string as well. Seemed like the cost was similar to the AMS.

We use the original Genesis bows with the AMS reels. We've tried a bunch of different set ups and this is by far the best for shooting reds, black drum, sheepshead and flounder back in the marsh. We've also shot some nice sized gars and they have held up. The string that the reels come with have never broken and we only trashed one reel beyond repair. You can snap shoot the bows like a recurve and they are small and light. The new AMS bowfishing bows/reels are big money but nice.

Ya'll got any used Genesis bows for sale?

Been using an EVOTEK bowfishing bow the past two seasons, it is an excellent bow......I beat the heck out of it, and it gets lots of use. Got 2 AMS retriever reels, one going on 4 years old, one 5 years old, never any issues, very tough!
