 Pensacola FL 6/15/12
I don't get to do much blue water fishing anymore so this was a pretty cool trip for me. Thought you guys might like to see. Headed to Pensacola to join my best friend, (and our ladies) aboard his Dad's 26' Regulator for 2 days of fishing. The weather gods didn’t really cooperate much, and we only got to do a few hours of fishing (in 3-5ft seas) before calling it quits Friday morning. Hit the first spot a mile or so off the beach (approx 60-70 ft of water) Boated 2 kings, and the dodo on a bottom drop for snapper!! 2nd spot about 10 miles out (approx 100ft of water) and an hour boat ride because of all the chop. Made a few drops for a few more snaps, hooked up with the ling, and after a 10 minute fight and the gaff, decided the slow troll for home after getting beat to pieces as the seas continued to build. Cut the dolphin up for some fresh ceviche! DELICIOUS! Saturday found us doing a little yachting and meeting some other friends on one of the beaches for a little BBQ and cocktails.

 Re: Pensacola FL 6/15/12
I know a girl whose grandfather just bought a brand new 31 Jupiter with a full tower, teak decks, the works! I'll be at the beach this weekend, so if I see them out in it, I'll take a picture of it to post up. Sum bitch is FINE; she ain't bad either... All that money doesn't hurt.

Ok I found a pic on her facebook of that FINE ASS tower on the Jupiter. Haha She's on the bow of her dad's and that's her grandfather's in the background that's all tricked out.
PS She's third from the left. Not too shabby...
Also, call me a prick, but I got no use for a Contender or a Mercury. Contender's too light. Merc's too black.

 Re: Pensacola FL 6/15/12
I've got a 26 Regulator, but only a T-top, no tower. Contenders are great for their intended use, it just isn't what I want a boat for. If you wanna compete in all the SKA kingfishing tournaments, then sure, you want a paper thin, lightweight, long, skinny boat with so many motors they're hanging off both sides on the back. That way you can skip across the tops of the waves like a rock at 900 mph and prove to all your friends that your dick hangs out of the bottom of your shorts because you won the shotgun start at every tournament this year. On the other hand, it means that when you're trying to gaff a fish (especially a big fish) and more than one person goes to the same side of the boat at the same time, your rub rail is practically touching the water because the deep V and lack of weight gives it the side-to-side stability of a canoe. Now of course, the stability issue doesn't apply to the big ones with two dozen motors on the back, but if you're down in the 25 to 27 foot range, where I am, it damn sure does. Also, any boat will beat the shit out of you if the conditions are such that you HAVE to run a trough, but that light weight and deep V will mean that you can never level it out enough to have a semi comfortable ride in that situation. I stopped thinking kingfishing was cool in middle school, so a boat that's more geared toward billfishing is what gets my dick hard these days. There are plenty of good ones out there, so this isn't just a Regulator or fuck off session. I've fished with plenty of friends on Jupiters, Grady Whites, Intrepids, Pursuits, and others, and they're all fine, stable fishing platforms for long runs in less than favorable seas. Just my $0.02. If money was no object, I'd scrap outboards altogether and get a real boat with twin diesels and AC, but that ain't exactly in the cards just yet. One day...

Oh, I forgot the other part of your question: 250 Yamaha 4-Strokes. Merc's are black; nothing black works.

 Re: Pensacola FL 6/15/12
lol, buddy has that same size regulator. I always like the step up floor and the massive coffin box for such a small boat, but it doesnt hold the fuel we need.
I grew up with a 31' tiarra w/ twin volvo penta 225 diesel pushers. I aint got time to spend 4 day's offshore fishing(we chase tuna) no more. I will say this about contender I aint never had a dry ride in that mother fucker. We had a mako come up and snatch a wahoo from us and it laid it's head on the gunnels and Ill never forget how that boat tipped I understand when you talk about the stability factor with the deaper V's with that steep degree
I'm not a fan of trips or quads just more money and up keep. We have a 24' champion with a yammah f250 and I love that bitch. I've rode in donzi's, fountains, ventures, yellowfins, regs, contenders, whalers, and the list goes on but everyone has there perks and cons. Looking at splitting a rig with my uncle we are just debating on what we want to pull the trigger on. ideally a 32-36 would be the sweet with a pair of yammah f300's or maybe even those 350's but that 29' sea vee looks pretty sweet right now. Around here contender's are popular but I notice the weight difference between the builders and lighter isnt always better. But hey I grew up plowing through waves doing 17 knots and we use to consider that Cadillac.
I dont give a fuck about measure dicks by the boat or motor's. I measure by the pounds of fish we off load from the boat and the trophies that come home.
