Son planning duck hunting trip here jan 8, 2013 for 7 days. Any help with info would be appreciated. Plans to bring my skiff and hunt out of it. What are local rules regarding mudmotors and custom and courtesies?

He's not gonna stand a chance against those guys with the 25 outboards. His best best is gonna be to let the locals head out first, and then find a place to hunt that someone isnt already in.

Honestly there are better places to hunt that are alot less crowded. He's probably not going to kill shit the first couple of days.

Thanks Owen. Sent link to my son. Got a feeling' the trip will be more important to them than the actual hunting success.

Here are my sons expectations and Rules for the trip. They are going to call themselves the Dukes of Mallards.

Just a question on goal number 2. Am I missing something but wouldn't that put the group way over possession limits? Or are they each going to eat a daily bag limit every day so they can continue to hunt. If so, I would call your son and friends really hardcore hunters and I wish them the best of luck. I know hunters who went on dream hunts and shot their daily bag limits only 2 out of 4 days and only a few birds on the other 2 days and got nabbed for having violated possession limits.

Never hunted Arkansas, so question for the AR crowd:

Why in the hell do they make 'em wait and leave at the same time? That looks like a bass tournament or something. If they want to get there the night before and sleep in the boat, who cares? Is this done to protect the guides or something? Seems like a damn fine way to get somebody killed.

Just spoke to an agent with the Ark Game and Fish about Hurricane Lake duck hunting. He said the Indy start will prevail again this year in spite of its dangers. He said he would rather see it start this way at 4:00 am than have the fist fights in the parking lot. I told him I thought the regulations said no one could launch until 4 am to which he said that would be impossible to enforce. He said that the water level is completely dependent on the White River water stages. If high, 17,000 acres are flooded. If low, he said not to waste your time going. If you know where you are going and have a 50 hp motor and are willing to risk your life for a duck, you will do fine. If not, hunt only during the week and never on Saturday. Sounds like a hell hole to me but maybe that's just what he wants me to believe. He mentioned hunting with a guide and I told him that was against the regulations, but he said the locals would do it for a "case of shells" and it would be "OK". He was a good old boy and sounded like he could use a case of shells, too.
