Been looking for a new headlamp that can do it all, and may have found my answer.

Went to my boat dealer this morning and he sold me this unit. Aircraft landing light, with a dimmer switch. This is not yet a review, but an observation that something better may be coming on the market real soon. He has several bulbs and watts to choose from. Basically you can build your own light to fit your use. This light is heavier than my current lights, but still less weight than the hard hat lights that are out there.

My current lights are nice and are very lightweight, but I've had a real problem keeping bulbs lately and the only option the seller has is to purchase another $25 light assembly each time one blows, instead of replacing the $1.50 bulb.


Anyways, I'll be using the new light tonight on a frogging trip and will report back on my findings.

Does the bulb not get hot like the old hard hat lights?

It has a CAUTION HOT sticker on the metal band that can touch your head...

I see the optimistic folks have shown up.

I don't think the metal band will heat up. It's there for support. Not many other places on the light to put a Caution sticker, and let's face it, in today's world, you got to tell people a 100watt aircraft light is hot, and that they should not touch it.

And how about the nut on the inside that looks like it'll dig into your head.

At least you'll look cool.

Please refute that with a picture of yourself wearing it...

Honestly they are nice but I abuse the stuff thrown in my boat.

A head lamp like that is really nice if you have a case or spot for your light.

After my runs my hard hat light gets tossed on the ground kicked around. Honestly I'd be afraid I'd break something like what's shown above.

I use a 28volt LED on a ballcap. Cant hurt it and it will burn as long as its dark

Y'all really are making this too easy.

The light comes with a fleece light cover for protection. I also have a plastic, dry box that I'm going to put my headlamps in to protect them.


The bulb is not burned out. And for a 40 yr old, it does make me look cool.

Wut is the big rectifier looking thing on the left side of the hard hat band for?
How many batteries do u have to bring to run a 28 volt LED?

A laptop battery that will fit in your pocket...

I need a new hardlight/spotlight but like the others I beat the crap out of it so I really need the protection of the hardhat. I really like the dimmer feature though because my friends won't ride in front of me anymore before daylight. Also, has anyone thought of or already made a HID hardhat light (or are the original aircraft bulbs brighter than HID)?

Well light worked good. Not sure it's the best frogging light as its a little heavy. Or at least it's heavier than what I'm use to. I'll be interested to see the weight of his other bulbs.

Its the dimmer circuit. It is molded with epoxy to make it waterproof and more durable.

Did anyone notice those 2 bare wire connection points that will probably touch your sweaty forehead at some point. Get a Bright Eyes then you won't have to be on a cord to a battery in the bottom of the boat.

i've seen my hard hat light ski behind the boat. its is pretty funny watching the light bounce around while it still is on. it still works thou and that was back in February

Where can i order a hard hat & light? I know there used to be a post on Louisiana Sportsman but cant find it. I made one last season but it wasnt that great plus its at my buddys camp and aint worth the trip to get it back.
