Post Gulf shores al surf fishing?
Headed to gulf shores on a vaca with the inlaws at the end of July, and I ABSOLUTELY HATE THE BEACH. So i decided I'll be just fishing the whole time. Well be at a condo right by 'the hangout'. Do any of you know a place nearby that could be some good surf fishing where I won't be crowded on the beach?? Are there any jetties I could fish from? Amy help is appreciated.

Thx,
Rod

Just start chumming for sharks, the beach won't be so crowded then. You will have all the space you need to fish! ;)

I'm in the same boat - hate the beach but I'll be chasing the rug rats the whole time. Orange beach

whiting are rather plentiful right now. 1/2 a peeled shrimp fished in the surf is a good technique. You also have a chance at pompano with this method, but we are about a month past the prime season for pompano.

Wade fishing near lagoon pass using topwater baits can produce good trout in the morning. Also, wade fishing at the northern tip of Fort Morgan can also produce good trout, but the bite will essentially be over by 8AM.

Perdido pass jetties can produce good fish, but I don't know anything about fishing the pass.

Gulf State Pier will yield the most diversity. Whiting, pompano, and trout would be the most tasty targets, but you can also catch kings, spanish, bluefish, and bull reds. The trout at the pier are very finicky and the people that have the most success use live shrimp, tiny trebles, and lite line (approx 4 lb test).

disclaimer... I haven't fished that area in about 10 years so take the info for what its worth. I hate the baldwin county beach. good luck

Pier fish with the brothers. I caught several fish including a big 'jack' that spooled me a couple of times.

I grew up in Mobile but parents have a place in OB. Been here every summer since I can remember and for two years after college. PM me your number and I'll see if I can find out who's the best in shore guide now a days from my buddies that are private boat captains. Also, definitely fish the jetties at Perdido Pass and for surf fishing head about fifteen minutes east to Johnson beach state park over the Florida line. Plenty of wide open undeveloped beach with nobody around to bother you. If you get bored fishing, just head back and stop off at the Flora Bama. Great place for a day or night drunk or both. Go to the upstairs outside bar and ask for Karen or Freddie. Tell them Bailey said to ask for you. They'll take care of you. Oh yeah, try to find this chick... The one that got away. "Free Bird!"
