Doesn't one run the risk of blowing up his barrel with that cut shell. The wad is supposed to go with the shot but the outer casing...? Maybe the pressure compresses and fuses the lead shot 'cause something's gotta give. |

One of the old guys at the local duck club showed me how to do this when I was in high school. Said he had killed a few deer from the duck blind using cut shells (back in the "old days"). I haven't found the need to cut a shell myself. Although, i did see a deer from the duck blind last season. We've seen the ole GW a few too many time for me to try this technique out. Why not just carry a slug? I'll admit that the end result of using a lead cut-off is much cooler than using a steel one. Seems like the lead fused together making a better projectile. |

I used to cut the top off of #6 lead shot, empty the shot out, then put some shot back in and melt wax over it, then some more shot, more hot wax, layering it finally topping off with a "lid" of wax for a tighter pattern to turkey hunt with. Works great. |

it is surprisingly accurate. This is an old outlaw trick to hunt big game out of season when hunting squirrel or rabbits. No slugs in your possession. |

Not really lost art, just doesn't work as well with steel shot. Of course, nothing works well with steel shot, lol. |

I used to do it when we had ducks rafted up a couple hundred yards out just to get them up. But that was years ago when i shot a beat up old 870 express. Haven't tried it since i got some more expensive guns. Kinda scared ill screw up the barrel |
