buddy of mine got in trouble with wildlife last year shot over limit during teal season. he went to court and they gave him a fine and a year probation for migratory birds. my question is if the year suspension is season long or a year to the court date. he was able to buy his license the other day for duck hunting the other day so is his probation over?

Normally its 1 year from when the verdict/penalty was handed out.

Best thing to do is call the clerk of courts that is over the place he was sentenced and ask.

thanks for the answers fellas, he was pretty set on going but ill tell him to call the court, its just weird why would they allow him to buy a license if it was illegal for him to hunt. I would imagine when they ran his license a flag or something would pop up making it to where he couldn't buy it

Or...if he doesn't have time to call and ask he can just go hunting. When possum cops show up just tell them the same thing you told us...They sold him a license. He didn't give a rat's ass what they thought last year when he shot over the limit, why start now.

When you go buy a license there is nothing on the computer saying this guy can't hunt. I was on probation for a felony and could still buy a lisense. Anyone can buy a license it's when you get caught hunting when your not suppose to be is what you have to worry about and courts go by calendar year they don't give a shit about hunting season a year is a year from the day he was tried

i was on 6mnth probation for 1 canvasback over the limit but i could still hunt if the didnt tell him his rights to hunt were revolked than he can hunt

Probation and suspension are 2 different situations.

If he is on probation, he most likely CAN hunt. Just don't get busted again doing anything against the hunting laws.

If his hunting privilidges are suspended, then he CAN'T hunt and his license should be flagged.

In your original post, you say both probation and suspension. Which one is it?

I know in WI the ALIS system just prints our license, there is no database that it goes into and says "this guy can hunt" or "this guy can't hunt" from what I understand most states are the same. I'm sure that asking a bunch of guys on the Internet who have no prior knowledge of the situation is not the way to go.... But I really hope you are smart enough to figure that one out on your own. Anyways, it is your buddy's responsibility to know wtf he is allowed to do or not do. People that don't pay enough attention to the laws are always going to run into trouble. Ignorance of the law does not constitute innocene.

If you go over by only one, yes it's a ticket. The giving of a suspension or probation is usually handed down when you shoot well over your limit. Which, if the case you should never be allowed to hunt ever again.

it was his first year hunting and he shot limit of teal in the morning then went the same day in the evening and shot limit, he said he didn't know about the daily bag limit. so he shot four over limit blue winged teal
