Post Floating shotgun cases
I wanna get a good case for my gun, and wanna know which one everyone likes. I see that some of the floating ones aren't waterproof, why would you want that?? And is there an advantage of side zipper vs. end opening? The only thing I could think of is that the side zipper ones could dry easier if it did get wet. There is a nice waterproof floater at Cabelas (side zipper) for 42$.

Thanks,
Rod

Got a drake floater at Academy for $30. It's not waterproof, but it opens on the end and down the middle for drying with lots of velcro. I've only used it for teal season, but I love it so far. Doesn't really bother me that it's not waterproof, I wasn't planning to swim with it. When I'm wading with my gun to my spot, I just have the gun on my back, not in a case so it's gonna get wet anyway. I just want it for keeping the gun from catching spray or getting banged up in the boat, and I doubt it'll ever go overboard but if it does, the floating feature would come in handy too.

I bought a floating one from Academy last season & it broke. The stitching where the barrel goes gave way. I now have one like CootSlayer. It has a velcro top and also opens the entire length which allows the case to dry between hunts.

I have an old avery or Macks case that is end open only. Its been a good case but the full opening case would be better. As long as it floats you are good. You aren't storing it in there anyway.

I used to have a waterproof floating roll top case. It was lost in a storm and I haven't found another like it.

I tryed to put a 28in SX3 in the drake one and it didnt seem long enough.I use ex choke tubes. It didnt want to take the gun with out a ext tube.I like the fact that you can dry it.We get allot of rain and snow that we hunt in and my guns allways wet.so i need the case to open.

Go buy you a cheap floating case!! Don't over think this!! Get you 2-3 years out of it for $20 them go get you another. I bought expensive ones and got the same life span out of them as the cheap ones

My guns travel in cases made of wax canvas and leather. Breathes way better, last 8x longer.

Tips for gun and cases!! Keep case dry while you hunt put in drybox. Keep a rag to wipe the gun dry before you put it in case. A dry case and z dry gun you will never have problems. The bad part about buying a black gun they all rust. For $100 more you could have got Camo and not worry about it being a rust bucket

As DDM said, Try to keep the gun dry and don't let your gun camp out in the case. I try to dry the gun off before putting it back in but in a rain its not always that simple. I have also stuck mine on the boot dryer overnight. Its probably got enuf rem-oil inside that I don't need to wipe the gun down also. Poker got to the boot dryer before me. ;)
You should get the case that Crews suggested if you are hunting with this guy. He would not be very impressed w/ mine!

I have a McAlister gun case I carry my hunting gun with. It'll probably outlast the gun. It's actually pretty water resistant, and I don't give two shits if it floats or not. If I'm worried about a gun case floating, I've got bigger fish to fry.

I found its way easier to keep the rust off if you carry it in a quilted/cotton lined gun case. No need to ever open it up and dry it out.
