Post subject: | Flooded Rice Field Help? |
I have a 100 acres of cut rice and i made my pond about 50 yards by 50 yards (give or take a few) and the week before duck season we couldnt fit another duck in the pond. Opening day we shot 13 which wasnt a very good hunt. Its been a few weeks and we cant seem to get anymore ducks in it. A couple people have told me to make my pond bigger. I need someones opinion that has hunted rice fields for years. Im new to rice fields i grew up hunting the marsh and can tell you everything on how to hunt it but im stumped on this one. Any help is appreciated. |

When we had our lease in Winnie it seemed we always did good teal season and early season but the later it got in the year it seemed the ducks would move to the marsh. I mean we killed ducks mid and end of season but it was never like the first few weeks. Also we noticed alternating ponds seemed to help to keep so much pressure off of them espically if you hunt mornings and evenings. This might not be an option for you though if you just got 1 pond. That's just the experience I've had with them good luck hope things pick up for you. |
