Hey guys i haven't seen anybody talking about choke tubes and i thought I would start something. I shoot a browning maxus with a carlson modified choke tube. I also have a improved cylinder and light modified I am thinking about changing just for the sake of trying it. Anybody have any input. What are you guys shooting? Look forward to hearing from you guys. |

Nothing matters here except how your gun patterns with the loads you shoot. Have you patterned it yet? |

Well I've got some stock tubes that will out pattern aftermarket tubes with some loads and with other loads its just the opposite. You have to pattern your gun with what you have and the loads you use. Every load will pattern differently even if its the same shot size and amount of shot. Wads and velocities will affect the patterns. Shoot some paper and see how many pellets you are putting in a 30" circle at the range you plan on shooting birds. This will atleast tell you how many pellets you are getting where you want them. If its to thin try to choke it down some. If its blown try a more open choke. If all else fails try another choke and repeat the whole process. A guide that was made by Roster goes like this for geese 50-55 pellets in a 30" circle, small geese 60-65,large ducks 85-90,medium ducks 115-120 and for small ducks 135-145. That should give you some back ground as to how many pellets you should see at a minimum, I like more than what he suggest. |

All I know is I recently switched to a patternmaster (never believed the hype until I shot one) and the results have been devastating |

Get the forcing cone in the barrel lengthened and your gun will pattern better. Most places charge about $75 to do this. |
