I'm in the market for a new 20g. Waterfowl being the main use of this new scatter gun.

I would like to purchase a semi and am looking at the following:

SX3 @ $1100 new $850 used

11-87 @ $600 used $699 new

if i can find one - Browning SLV in MODB - not likely @ $1000 used

Can anyone else make some suggestions?

What are you all using in 20g?

Use to have a 11-87 and it was a good reliable little gun. Picked up a 20g Franchi O/U so that's all I use when I want a 20 ga now.

M2 sure gets my vote... I messed up last year when a local dealer had 2 for 950 and I didn't get one

I never said it was a bad gun. Some people like them, but more dont. It is probably heavIer than comparable guns.

Btw I have my dads old 1100 that I got started with and still love it, even though I don't shoot it anymore.

I said mine hasn't failed yet, everything breaks. I was just saying that mine leads a hard life from sept 1st -jan 3 as it never leaves the boat and is not in a case or gun box.

I'm leaning away from the 11-87 just because I havent been thrilled with the latest batch of guns they've been producing.

Too bad the Versa isnt 20g yet....

I have a m1 super 90 20g Benelli. Have had it for 11 years or so love it. Light and points great. See if you can find one used.

I have an 11-87 20 gauge that threw a scrap iron fit one day while hunting. It sounded like a baby rattle with all the parts floating around in it  It was under warranty so I had it repaired.

I like the gun but my favorite 20 is my A5 mag 20 because it patterns steel loads of 3's wonderfully. If I was in the market for a new 20 I personally like the browning silvers.

I agree with DDM on this one. The gun he mentioned is great. I've seen a few used for reasonable prices too!

Buying a new 20 gauge shotgun for waterfowl is under kill.
If you already have one ,then go ahead and use it. But a newer 12 gage will way outperform on waterfowl. Especially with steel or alloyed shot.

IMHO ... today, 2013, its not worth the effort to purchase a 20g for waterfowl UNLESS there is some special restrictions on your bore size.
20g has its place, but waterfowling is somewhat handicapped by that gun.

I went hunting with a guy twice this year and he used a 20 ga.
The shots were all pass shots at ringers two limits with 14 shells. Didn't seem like under kill here.

Beretta 390 Silver Mallard and love it. Kind of hard to find right now but it's worth the effort.

I want a 20g because I take a few young hunters with me.
Plus I WANT one.
I agree the 12g puts more pellets downrange but I dont think it matters if you're dropping birds what gauge you're using.

The ducks dont judge your hunting skills...and I dont think they care what gun you use...

But I do agree ^^ the 12g is the common

I want to buy another gun. Simple. 8-)
