 lets talk Food Plots
I've always got out before bow season starts, and besides putting feeders out, ive thrown some seeds down. My mixed bag consist of rye grass, oats, chicory, and some fertilizer. Not a big food plot at all, usually around 10lbs of seeds. Im hunting national forest so i wanna keep it small and unseen. Just a lil something extra to get them to stop in bow range. What you fella's recommend on planting, what works best for ya'll.

For what you are trying to do, I'd recommend the Whitetail Institute's NoPlow mixed seed. Its made for small areas. No plowing. Just clear the ground, rake the soil to loosen it up, and spread the seed. Stiff works pretty good. Might be something worth trying.

 Re: lets talk Food Plots
Iron clay peas are like a magnet. If the deer are thick they will mow it down before it gets established so alot of people plant it a few weeks before bow season. If you can plant an acre or more, you can plant it in April. That stuff will grow thick and climb up anything. I've had where they were bedding down in it. As it starts to die off after the 1st hard frost, I'll usually throw a rye, wheat, oats mix in there and it will start growing up as the peas die out.
