Post best canoe
I used the search function and could not find anything specific. Looking for a canoe for both family outings, recreational paddling, and for duck hunting. Not exactly for hunting out of but stable. I would like to be able to carry it if necessary in my 1648 jon boat w/longtail motor. Generally shallow water with hard bottom. It would be handy for second or third hunter deployment with decoys and gear. A pirogue came across my mind but it would be too small for family and extended paddling. I'm thinking 14-17' size. I like the carrying capacity of most canoes in this size range from 800-1100 lbs. A kayak is also too small. I'm looking for used canoes because like most, I am on a budget. I'd welcome any reviews or previous experience on canoes.

Try looking at the the Gheenoes. They are a little wider so definitely more stable. Has a flat back you can put a motor on the back if you like. Weight is 120 lbs.

You need a pirogue.

Try to find an old Coleman scanoe. Super stable and also have a flat back for a small motor. I use one that's well over 20 years old and still in excellent shape.

Thank you, gents! I think the 16' canoe under a 100# should be the double duty fit, won't need a trailer, registration, motor, has carrying capacity for my family or decoys and gear, is stable enough.

With the right racks you can go big on a pirogue - like my GDSD and GD pirouge
it will carry 3 fat boys and has full built in floatation with spud pole holes
thru the hull at front and rear....

It sits above the outside gunnels and does not get in the way of
driver or passengers while underway - tows at 70 mph too....

In a featherweight Chapman builds a super lightweight hull under 50 lbs....
