Has anyone got any tricks up thier sleeves for getting away from the massive crowds on opening day? I just had the idea of letting someone drop me off at the ramp the day before, cutting a big ass tree across the little access road and blocking everyone out, ought to keep the top waters at bay. Watcha think? ![]() Also thinking of hanging cheap flashlights in the brush 100 yards on each side of me to make it look like other groups are already there and give me some space... |

Wireless powered speakers in the stumps that broadcast "get back, you're to close". Even more effective with flashing light. |

Prolly 3-4 people, I might scatter them out with the fake lights for more realistic motion until shooting light |

Take two trucks. Instead of chopping down a tree go "borrow" some roads barrels and road close signs from the local highway construction site. It may keep some slap dicks away. |

Put up signs at ramp " area closed for hunting until further notice. Endangered species located. Violators will be prosecuted." |

Just fire a warning shot over their heads if they get too close. We did last year worked like a charm. Just be prepared to throw down or take fire yourself |

Folks that set up in my back pocket pisses me off bad. I usually try to be early to claim my hole but sometimes it doesnt wrk out. I usually have a back up plan. If someone gets in too tight and wont leave then i will. Its not worth it to me pissing away a day of hunting and 30-40$ in gas money to hunt by some dickheads, be pissed the whole time and not kill anything. |

I put my decoys out the day before to claim my spot. Well on opening morning I had a group of guys set up 30 yards from my decoys. I pulled up and showed them the decoys. They said they would leave but I was already headed to hunt wit another guy. |

We go out 3-4 hour before shooting hour and spread guys out with flashlights to keep guys away. Works good till a start to hunting then some asshole that got out there 10 min til shooting hours sets up next to ya. |

Where I put my decoys is right out front my blind. So tech that's my spot. And if my decoys ended up in a tree someone would tote an ass whipping |

Put your decoys out around here and leave and you just donated them. These guys will go to their spot the night before and camp in the boat to claim. That's just too much BS for me, I just try to find the places nobody else goes and hope for the best, I'd rather shoot only a couple birds and have a good morning out than put up with the BS with the crowds. |

I would LOVE to find a couple dozen decoys left out somewhere. Those things are expensive! That'd be enough to make it a good opening morning right there... Mudslut, what area do you hunt, and do you use pintail decoys??? ![]() |

I heard the Teal migration has already begun. Reports are that large groups are arriving in locations west of Crowley, La and predictions are that the western regions of LA will experience a bumper crop season whereas the Henderson Lake area and the Atchafalaya basin will have very poor Teal numbers, almost none in Henderson Lake. That has happened many times before. So lookin good for some but not us. I have LaWLF biologists on speed dial. |

I scout the week before. Find 5 or 6 good places to go hunt then I find 2-3 places to hunt at the 5-6 places just in case some one is hunting at one of the spots I scouted. You guys may knock Canadians but its fucking 10 times better duck hunting here that dealing with all the week end warriors. I think in the last 10 years I have only had some one hunting were we wanted to go 2 times. In the last 2 years with the mudboat I have never had anyone near me hunting. ![]() ![]() |

I'll probably end up chasing geese in a dry field and likely shoot a few wood ducks for my effort. Much more fun than bumper boats on the public marshes. Sent from my BagPhone |

Leave decoys on public land "to claim a spot" and they're mine! As for as I know they were left for garbage and I am being responsible and "cleaning up the waterways". Public land is public land. Period. |
