Just got back from a fly out Ptarmigan hunt. Saw maybe 75-100 birds. Most were flushing real wild but we did get in some really nice point action. Brush was super think and tall so shooting was tough and locating the dog was even harder. (mental Note, Don't forget the beeper next time.)
Had a good weekend and took 19 birds.

Duckdon how far are you from North Pole, Ak? A guy I grew up retired from the AF and lives with his Hawaiian wife there. He is hounding me hard to come up and hunt with him. I was asking to see what you can tell me about his area. Nice pics and hunt. For a minute I thought you had a Airedale but seen it was not.

The plane is not mine. Belongs to a buddy that don't have a bird dog, soooooo.

I am about 400 miles from North Pole but my cabin is about 90 miles from NP. We also have our NAVHDA Dog Trials up there so I was there in early August and will be back for VGP Trials August 30. After the trials I am heading back to my cabin at Delta Junction for the Sept. 1 waterfowl opener. Hope the Specks and cranes are present. Don't plan to hunt ducks but hope to get Sandhills, Specks, maybe a few Cacklers and some grouse.

I like that area but it is interior Alaska so to hot in the summer and cold as a frozen dog turd in the winter.
North Pole is in a good central location, 10 miles from Fairbanks and the airport, but it is Alaska so everything is far and always and expitition. Don
