Brought my boat down to Venice a couple years ago to fish the lump for yellowfins. We were doing good till we blew a lower unit out. We were there in late febuary. Is that an optimal time to go or is there a better time? This year took the boat to Gloucester to mix it up but thinking of doing the Venice thing next year. We are looking to strictly chunk or liveline. Can't afford the gas to run out to the rigs in summer either. |

The lumps are not what they used to be. I think they have better areas to fish within 15 miles of the lumps. The time of year is good but you have very few days you can fish bc of weather. |

basically any weather window through late november-early march depending if the winter pattern is staying or going. In march you can limp to medusa and do well. Theres always october fishing the shrimp boats takes a few cool fronts to get that started. Best of luck! |

That is the second scariest run, from Venice to gulf in 0 visibility fog. I hate trusting my life with my radar and chart plotter. Almost as scary as Oregon inlet. |
