 Super fast hunt!
Not even a -20 Wind chill would stop us.
Off to the lake we went, got to the ramp, launched the boat, got to the blind, 3 man limit later - back home for 0732h.......
Well, no not exactly like that...
After we launched the boat my motor wouldnt turn over. A 27hp Kohler ProDrive wouldn't start - say what?!
Why? Simple. I took it out last sunday and got it soaked. It froze during the week and possibly got some water in the solenoid. It definitely froze last night.
When the grease in the lower unit makes it hard to turn the motor left and right - you know its cold out.
After hearing the starter spin but not grab - I knew it had gotten wet and frozen. Boourns.
We left almost as soon as we had gotten there and headed to McDonald's for a much needed warm coffee.
Just another duck hunting adventure =)
Bit of a bummer - but could you imagine that happening in the middle of a large lake? Yikes.
So I am pulling the starter and bringing it inside to drain all moisture out so this never happens again.
Probably going to invest in a motor cover at the same time =)
The hunt in 2 images:

That sucks but at least you didn't get marooned out on the lake! I always make it a point to start the motor and warm it up before I even leave the house when its super cold out.

 Re: Super fast hunt!
I wouldn't even think about taking my boat out in this shit with out a heated grage. Made it out yesterday for a one hour limit.Had to do it again to day never even made it out of the launch and fell in off the back of the boat saved the day for my bro thoe he took the boat out while I finished my hearattack in the truck getting the feeling back in my hands. I need to do somthing to keep the boat from freezing to the trailer. My boat will float with the trailer froze to it. I even got the trailer air born trying to get it to bump off. This is why I fell off the back of the boat. It's hard to stand on a hunt deck with an 1" of ice on it. You definitely need a motor cover I would think the road salt spray would be hard as hell on electrical connections.my boat turns white the next day in the shop from the road spray. Looks like it was a bad day for both of us I tell everyone if you want to test the limits of hunting gear use it in -20 weather if it works you know it's tough.

 Re: Super fast hunt!
If you let the boat float the trailer for a couple min. It will drop off the the water thaws it. Ive done all sorts of retarded things to hunt in the cold. We even made a tent out of tarps and put a propane heater in it to warm an outboard so it would start when it was -10.
