The sad truth is, hunters (and fishermen to a small extent) pay for the vast majority of all conservation/public use recreation areas through the Pittman-Robertson Act (taxes on their gear) and hunting/fishing licenses.
Additionally, look at how many states require HUNTERS to pay for access permits/licenses for their WMA's. Yet, other activities like hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, bird watching, camping, etc....are usually NOT required to purchase the same permit/license to basically use the same resources. HUNTERS pay the lion's share of the bill.
When was the last time somebody had to buy a bird watching or tree hugging stamp??
