A buddy called me on Sunday after his morning teal hunt and told me that he shot a banded Black Duck (Black Mallard) this weekend. I don't know how ya'll feel about this, but that kind of stuff pisses me off. What do you think?

if he was just shooting to shoot and lucked up then its wrong, but if he saw the band and shot it for the band then i would do the same thing. i know its wrong but so is looking at my secretary's ass all day, lol.

No he was just shooting to shoot because they shot 4 that day and he got lucky on one of them.

Believe me I do my fair share of illegal things, but they didn't even keep the ducks they just shot them and stomped them in the mud. On the one that was banded they pulled the band of then stomped it in the mud. That is what aggravates me about it.

It PISSES me off!!! You youger guys need to just stop hunting all together!! If you cannot follow the rules you do not deserve to be out there!! I hunt in South East Texas also! Yea I told him that he is a piece of sh!t and it is people like him that ruin it for us that follow the rules...I am no saint and have done some stupid things but I always do my best to stick to game laws. Now some other laws that don't have to do with hunting I have trouble following. He kept trying to apologize because he knows I am not going to bring him hunting anymore and he doesn't have a boat.

It so happened that another guy I know was hunting near him and saw them shooting the big ducks and he called the GW on them but they had packed up and left before they got there.

now to clear things up, i dont and wouldnt shoot one just to shoot it and stomp it in the mud, everything i shoot i bring home. and a banded duck would be on the wall. i was just saying IF i saw the band on the bird then shot it bc of it is the only reason i would kill out of season.

For me, it goes back to why people hunt in the fist place . . . to harvest game. And I feel like no one can argue that with the advances in modern ammunition, chokes, calls, cammo, etc, the hunter is at a tremendous advantage. So there obviously does need to be some regulation upon when and how many duck species can be killed.

I know that people make mistakes. I myself have accidentally taken a premature pintail hen that came in with a group of gadwalls. But I also kept it and took the ticket that came with it. I also don't think that one group of hunters taking 4 big ducks is going to ruin anyones season. But when you have group after group that confuses a 5-Stand with Duck Hunting, you can do some bad things to duck numbers. As prevelant as Pintails were 25-30 years ago, there low numbers now can attest to that. Hunters need to show discipline and respect for other hunters today and in the future.

I don't want to get all sappy over the subject, but I serioulsy hope that 10 years from now when I have boys that can hunt with me, we have as good of duck numbers as we do now. And with the number of roosts and wetlands that are being wiped out, we don't need to do anything else to put pressure on them.

Accidents happen, but if you man up and take the bird and the ticket, then I respect that. But to do it on purpose is chicken $hit.

like BODUKE said.......kinda. if you have the balls to pull the trigger when you know you'll be over the limit then have the balls to tote 'em out. but to be killing 'em out of season and stomping 'em.......he simply needs his ass beat. i hope he gets caught. i can't associate with folks like that. your buddy is an a$$hole.
