I know I am asking for a lot because duck season will not be finished yet, on Jan11.

Jefferson Parish is asking for volunteers w/Boats to help bring discarded Christmas trees from land to marsh in Lafitte. They need shallow draft boats like we have. They are hoping to get this done by 1300 or so. Meeting at 0800 (boat in the water) in Lafitte, at Cochiara’s Marina. Trees will be brought about a half mile to cradles and placed.

They will top off your gas tank, and feed you lunch. We have to provide everything else. A helper would be nice he said.

If you are interested, contact me by PM and also post in the thread. Like I said, I know that the season is not over just yet and everyone is trying to get in as many hunts as possible. But this is a chance to give the mud motor owners some positive PR and do something good for the erosion problem.

Will this be a rain or shine event? Just looked at the extended forecast.

Funny how it's always okay to hunt in foul weather but never okay to work in it!

I heard Tom Moorman from Ducks Unlimited speak about our marsh and coastal erosion. He says that studies have shown that we are having about 3 million less ducks than in the 70's do to coastal erosion bringing on a loss of habitat. He said that we need to get our erosion under control or lose even more duck habitat. Which in turn hurts duck hunters and our economy.

I know that this project on this small scale may not help that much. However, if by doing this helps some but mostly just gets people working together to put out PR bringing awareness to more and more people through news releases, it may make this more of an important issue.

I ended up not being able to go being down in the back. But I talked to him yesterday, he was happy for the volunteers but the way he spoke, they had enough to take care of what they had.
