Re: Cut up Buffalo for Catfish Bait
I chunked up a drum last season in a pinch and threw in some of that minced garlic that comes in a jar... put the concoction in a quart mason jar and shook it up...Worked real well running lines, by the end of the second day that mason jar we stuffed it all in stunk to high heaven even being sealed... The oil from the fish mixed in with the garlic made a nice plume on the water as the bait dipped into the water...
This guy plus another 20 were from that weekend...

Re: Cut up Buffalo for Catfish Bait
Up on toledo we have been making our own soap mixture for years and it works wonder. after cooking bacon several mornings we use the grease from that and the cheap white ivory soap. melt it down in a glass 8x14 pan. make it about 1/2 inch thick and cube it in 1/2 inch pieces. The extra grease from the beacon helps the soap stay soft enough to stay on the hooks plenty good. we use this when we dont have enough perch from our traps.

We use cut buffalo often, cut it in about 1.5 inch strips so it'll hang off the hook. The wind or current will make it vibrate like live bait. Works good for my part of the country.

Buffalo makes good bait. We use it alot in the summer on trot lines. When I fish a thousand hooks at a time bait becomes the key factor to success. Asian carp, buffalo and drum become the main feast on bait lines.
