This was my first hunt with Ward at Frontline. Thought some of you might like to hear about the hunt and see some pictures, so here goes:

Day 1 greeted us with 27F with frost on the ground, 15-20MPH wind, and heavy fog. It took FOREVER for the fog to lift. You would think with a nice wind it would have lifted, but it took several hours. The geese wanted nothing to do with the spread in the fog. Once the fog lifted we were done in short order. We ended with a limit of dark geese (56 for 7 hunters), 3 ducks, and 18 light geese if I remember correctly. We duck hunted that night, but only ended with 11 I think. However, the snow geese that were coming over us was pretty phenomenal. I shot two videos, but they didn’t turn out. No telling how many we could have killed, but you can’t shoot geese in the afternoons in Saskatchewan until sometime in mid-October.

Day 2 was very windy………40-50MPH. We were done with a limit of dark geese in around 30 minutes. In your face would have been an understatement. I wish we would have had this on video. We hunted ducks again that afternoon, but only killed 6.

Day 3 started with it raining while we were putting out decoys. It continued to rain throughout the hunt. It was the most miserable, but the most fun I’ve had in a long time. We killed 137 birds on this hunt. A limit of ducks (56), close to a limit of dark geese (46), and 35 light geese. We could have killed our limits of darks, but I think everyone got plenty of shooting in and was soaked to the bone when we killed our last duck, so Ward called it. I should have taken a picture of the fire line and all the spent hulls.

We ended the 3 day trip with 292 birds and shot 27 boxes of shells. That’s a little over 2 shells a bird, so I think we did alright in the shooting department.

Ward said our day 2 hunt was the quickest any of his groups since he had been guiding up there had shot 7 limits of dark geese, and our day 3 hunt was the most birds any of his groups have ever killed in one hunt.

We didn’t break his record for total number of birds killed, but if we could have got on the ducks those two afternoons we didn’t do so well, I think we would have blown it out of the water. We all think with the unseasonably hot weather Canada had been having before we got there, the ducks just hadn’t had a good migration yet. It was apparent our day 3 hunt the ducks were starting to move in and on the drive back to the airport almost all the water holes were loaded with birds where there weren’t any 3 days before on our drive in to hunt. Either way is was phenomenal goose hunting and a great time with close friends. I can’t wait to go back. Canada has RUINED me!!!!! If you enjoy waterfowl hunting, it's a must do trip. Put it on your bucket list.

For those that asked we hunted with Frontline Outfitters, Ward McGee, in Saint Walburg, Saskatchewan.

I think Ward runs a great operation. The lodge is super clean for running hunter's in and out twice a week. Plus, you can't beat Marie's breakfast/brunch. The food cooked by the other ladies they bring over to the lodge at night isn't half bad. I know it sure beats staying at a hotel and eating out for meals.

Ward is not only one helluva goose/duck caller, but a stand up guy. I'll 100% be back to hunt and would recommend him for anyone wanting to hunt Saskatchewan.

Man I have thier site saved in my favorites I was looking at putting a trip together this year but it never worked out with the guys,could not get the vacation scheduals right.That looks awsome,my pop has made a few trips up there but the guide service they were using was sold to another outfitter and they were not pleased at all with the last trip.

Book it! You won't be disappointed. I'm going back Wednesday to see if it was a fluke!

I just refuse to use a guide to waterfowl hunt, more satisfying doing it yourself.
