 Squirrel hunting from boats
Does anyone know the laws about hunting from a boat? We hunt some property next to Indian Bayou Wildlife Management area, Saturday and again this morning there where guys hunting from their boats. I don't care if they hunt out of them but I do have a problem with them getting on our land and killing.

 Re: Squirrel hunting from boats
It's legal to shoot from a boat that's not under power, but to treapass on your land is another issue.
Did they start out on the public land & end up there?? May have not realized that they had ventured too far??

 Re: Squirrel hunting from boats
Over here in Texas you have to be on private water surrounded by privet land...that you have permission to be on…dude just call the game warden on his ass… that’s how I would find out if It was legal or not…

I see no problem with trollin down the bayou shootin a couple squirrels on public land. Now privite land is another story.

 Re: Squirrel hunting from boats
In La. the wildlife agents do not enforce trespassing laws on private property, unless they have an intrest in where someone is trespassing. It is a matter for regular law enforcement. At least that is the way it works over here.If someone is trespassing you can run them off and get the numbers off the boat and then press charges with that,it is a pain in the ass.Try to get the cops to meet you at the landing to catch a boat and then you have to prove that they were on your land and not a piece they had permission to hunt.It helps to have family and friends in the local law enforcement community.
It is just better to handle it yourself face to face with them, run them off, threaten to press charges do what you want.Just remember everyone has a gun out there and you never know who you are dealing with or how many of them are out there.
It is legal to drift hunt squirrels if the vessel is not under power.

 Re: Squirrel hunting from boats
Dats my most favorite way of huntin skwerels. Trollin motorin down a little quite bayou. You can drink coffee and relax while huntin dem skwerels. I alway thought it was legal. I've even had a game warden once stop and check my licence while doin it, you would think he would have told me suthin if I was breakin da law. But if it's not legal my advise is don't get caught.

 Re: Squirrel hunting from boats
In Texas hunting may be done from a boat under no motorized power-paddlins ok- but bullet or shot may not cross onto anothers property line and game may not be retrieved from accross property line without landowner approval.

 Re: Squirrel hunting from boats
I don't have a problem with them hunting out a boat, but I do have one with them getting on our place and shooting game. The way the place is set up with canals and ring leeve's its hard to get to them when they shoot, as soon as they hear a bike coming they crank up and get the hell out, so they know they are not supposed to be there. There was at least seven or eight boats in the bayou Saturday, so its hard to lay blame on who it is. These guys have Big and Little Alabama in Sherburne, all of Henderson, and public land right down the road, why trespass on our little place with all the other options? Like my buddy said , If they had a duck lease with public waterway on the side and you would set up against the bank shooting birds over their place how would they like that? I think if this keeps up I'll just launch the surface drive in the bayou myself with my gun, camera, and cell.

 Re: Squirrel hunting from boats
It's legal so long as the boat isn't underway same as duck huntin, but creepin down the bayou and getting out of your boat onto private land is still tresspassin. warn um once and if theys do it again shoot um and say you thought theys was a rabbit...
