I thought this bacteria was mostly in warm salt water. But this was in fresh water and in Lake Conroe like most this winter was probably cooler than normal.

Any ideas about this? should we take more precautions? And what would that be?

No thoughts on this. If a guy caught this in fresh water and in the winter, how bad will it be when the water warms up? Hopefully it is an isolated case.

Me and my grandpaw was fishin in the marsh back in 98-99 and he scratched his hand and washed the blood off in the water and thought nothin of it. A day later he was in the hospital and almost lost him. I'm not sure how we could combat this. This summer it will probably get bad as hot as they are sayin it gonna be.

The doctor said it was all down hill for him as soon as he scratched himself! It looked like a brush burn, he started running fever and vomiting, wife brought him to the ER and they said he was going into cardiac arrest. We called our family doctor and they rushed him into surgery and removed all the damaged flesh. They left his hand open so they could scrub the wound out. He was 200 lbs when he walked in and jumped to 500lbs. All his organs shut down also! It was a very rough ordeal!

The doctor told us that if he would have went in he could have started him on antibiotics it wouldn't have been as bad! And yes it was very difficult !
