 Saltwater License Going Up
A few weeks ago, I read an article stating that Saltwater Fishing Licenses are set to go up by $7.50 to a total of $13 if a bill in the Louisiana legislature passes. For the record--I hate fees, taxes and millages, everything in taking our money. I understand that we need to have some--but it just gives more money for every government from the feds down to the smallest village to waste-- and create politicians.
The added fees are supposed to create a Saltwater Fish Research and Conservation Fund. This added fees are "dedicated" totally to this fund. All that I knew till what I heard the morning on Don Dubuc's show. I heard today a 15% of the fund may be taken and put anywhere in the state budget if not used by the Fund. So this means, use it or lose it, even if there is no need to use it this year, but could be used for bigger cost plans a few years down the road. I hate those little passages that politicians put in bills like that. If this is a dedicated fund--let the money just accrue in this account to be used for this dedicated purpose. And this is why citizens do not trust government.
To the extra fee, I have a lifetime license so it will not affect me at all. However, in hating to pay any fees and taxes, I do not mind normally spending the extra money when I know it is going to helping manage our wildlife and fisheries. I see it at work--could always be done better though. But I am not for it if the state can raid it and use it for something else as has been done in the past. So I am for it with conditions. Even if I had to pay, I would not paying $20 extra, especially if your license ended on your birthday.
What do you all say about this? Agree/disagree or another viewpoint?

 Re: Saltwater License Going Up
It sounds good on paper, but the chances of that money funding something beneficial to us, as sportsman, is slim to none. Just as you stated, they will accrue the money (they realize that is a goldmine in la) but instead of using it wisely they will appoint a bunch of fuck ups to determine the money is really needed somewhere else.
Would be great if they use the money, initially to fight all the Feds bs reasons for cutting seasons on snapper, grouper, amberjack, etc..., then if they succeed, the number of license purchased would go up once legit seasons and bag limits are back. This would create more money over coming years to fund programs that benefit us.
Buuuut, that'll never happen
'Merica!

They took money from social security when this provision wasnt even there (was supposed to just accrue) and they never gave it back. What's to stop them from taking more than what didnt get used (taking because it's there with a payback promise, or just changing the cutoff spending date "temporarily" in order to get their hands on it. I dont like it, itll never see it's intended use after the first year...

You bitching about $7.50... It costs me over $300/year to hunt ducks and fish saltwater in Louisiana because I'm still an Alabama resident! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

And I think thats silly too. Ill pay 7.50 more, I just have issue with the "the money will go to this, UNLESS we can scam it out of that fund and put it somewhere else that itll get wasted and doesnt help wildlife at all"

 Re: Saltwater License Going Up
Buy a lifetime license and don't worry about increases.

 Re: Saltwater License Going Up
Get one of these...
Before they went up $800 I purchased a life time for myself. Good investment. I still have to purchase the federal duck stamp though.

 Re: Saltwater License Going Up
Lifetime for out of state is over $3,000.00. I could get a LA license and in a year, I could get a lifetime for resident price, but then I'd have to renounce my AL license. I simply can't do that. Roll Tide!
