 kicks mid range
Recently bought a kicks mid range (modified) tube. Last hear i shot mostly black cloud, and tried the hevi metal. Kept goin back to the black cloud because i felt it had more knock down than the hevi metal. My question is anybody running this tube and patterned different steel shots through it? Which one groups better in your opinion. I wanted to try the kent fasteel but heard it was a dirty shell amongst others. I shot federal 7 1/2 lead shot this past weekend and every clay i hit would turn to dust. So right out the gate i notice a difference.

 Re: kicks mid range
I shoot Rios through mine and they seem to pattern well when shooting at ducks. I've never patterned it tho but prob will this year.

 Re: kicks mid range
my son shoots this in his 20 gauge and it patterns very nicely with steel - we make our own shells 4 and 3 shot seem to pattern the best in his gun (1600 FPS MV 1 ounce of shot). When we drop down to 1 or BB shot for geese it gets more inconsistent with patterns – some really tight and some with a lot of large holes in patterns - he still hits and folds big geese.
overall I think you will be very happy with this choke tube and how it performs -

 Re: kicks mid range
If it's a Kicks "ported" you are not supposed to shoot black clouds with it..
Search kicks chokes for reviews and results! I think you got the right choke but the wrong shells!

 Re: kicks mid range
Black Cloud is a good concept in shells - but I have seen too many of their wads not deploy as advertised and it turns into a Black Steel Slug

 Re: kicks mid range
regular steel (shot cup and gas seal what my son uses) you will like the patterns with 2-3-4 shot - probaly pattern better with 1-BB with over an ounce (1 1/4 - 1 1/8) of larger pellets
I haven't experimented with Black Cloud with this choke - but I think velocity is more important than fancy pellets for knock down dead birds power

 Re: kicks mid range
try your higher velocity experiment with #4 steel shot - you'll like the patterns and penetration

 Re: kicks mid range
I have found black cloud to be a lot dirtier than fasteel but that's just me.

 Re: kicks mid range
I usually use estates but I used a lot of kent last year and they may be dirty but they did the trick. #4's on both

 Re: kicks mid range
Kents in 3s and 4s used to be all i shot. Killed a ton of birds with them my only issue was how fast their shells would rust up. You could just about watch the brass rust up on a humid day or got a splash of water on them. I still use Kent 1s for geese with factory modified since that's mostly over fields. Ducks i shoot black cloud 3s through a trulock modified choke. Have a ton of confidence in this set up.

 Re: kicks mid range
I like the teal steel outta my sbe2 .. But i just shoot the factory mod choke .. Those shells are good for early season when you can get ducks to commit , but I switch to #3 later in season when you gotta reach a little further

 Re: kicks mid range
For teal i shoot 2 3/4 #7 low brass steel expert for 5.89 a box with my sbe1 with a kicks mid range. and it wears their asses out. heck i lead with it all during big duck season as y first shot and it folds big ducks up like a paper sack out to at least 30 yards. i made alot of my buddies believers of this shell. heck a case is 60 bucks. i also shoot Kent #2's 1425 1 1/4 and they pattern great through the kicks. oh and the #7's are great water swat loads on wounded they cover very well.

 Re: kicks mid range
I shoot estate 3in 3's with a kicks mod out of my browning gold.It will flat out smash a duck out to 50 yds the only thing that I don't like is the patterns are too tight at 20.I bought a new 20ga and will be using the same choke in it.

 Re: kicks mid range
Update. Yesterday was test day and boy did we throw some shells out my barrel.
First tests consisted of a 40 yard vice shot. (Gun was in a vice for accurate shooting)
The targets where 12x12
Hevi metal #3 3" 1 1/4 shot---- 27 bbs on target. 35 bbs on target and 32 bbs on target. Hevi metal #6 3" 1 1/4 shot---- 37 bbs on target. 32 bbs on target. 31 bbs on target.
Remington hypersonic #3---- shot one shell with 47 bbs on target
Kent fasteel #3 1 1/4 shot--- 52 bbs on target, 54 bbs on target and 58 bbs on target. kent teal steel #5 1 1/4 shot--- 45, 48, 43
So on paper the kent fasteel took the best shots. Now we shot skeet with each shell.
Kent fasteel---- turned em to dust ever time kent tealsteel---- usually 3 pieces
Hevi metal #3---- dusted every time hevi metal #5----- pretty good but wasnt dust
Remington hypersonic ---- missed everyone
Winchesters---- decent but i would have to track the bird.
So in conclusion at 13$ a box the kent fasteel is going to be my steel load for the season. Yes they arw a very dirty shell but the bang for the buck, i can clean the gun a few extra times.
The gun being tested is a 26" browning gold hunter with the kicks mid range ported tube. Thanks for all the help fellas.
