How do they fight? Our pickerel try hard but don't really win any gold medals in that department...

Caught this one over 17' of water hit it like a freight train and stayed down pulling drag. I use 65 lb power pro and an Abu Garcia 6601 c4 I lock the drag down about as tight as it goes but they can still strip line. Did a death roll 5-6 barrel rolls boat side tangling herself up and then it was all over. We use very heavy rods because typical lures are 3-6 ounces and 6-12" lg makes it easier to cast all day and muscle in big fish. Ive caught em on light tackle bass gear and its an intense battle.

Since we are talking about muskies...I'll share also.

This is my personal best, so far.

54.5" did not get a weight.

That's a crazy fish. Imagine if he'd caught that fish in October how big it would have seemed!

I know the feeling brick, I went three years cursed without putting one in the boat and I just put 2 fish in the boat in 2 weeks. Its a matter of persistance. I did catch a lot of nice pike during that time and had follows and missed opportunities.

Cody - That fish in fall could easily pack on 10-15 lbs during the fall feeding binge with all the forage in the system. My buddy didn't get a weight but said it had to be all of 40 lbs. Girth was 23".

He should be able to look it up on a chart if he has the length and girth.

Post Re: toothy critter
yea I just looked looked it up muskyhunter has one and a few other sites have one and they vary by about a pound between em. formula from muskyhunter says 37.5 lbs. When i first saw it I guessed weighed 35-40 so i was about right on the money. This fish is still swimming so there is a chance of catching her again. Last spring a guy caught a 64" out of here and released it est weight was 72 lbsbut it was before the open season. Cant wait for fall.

I can't imagine what a 64" fish looks like. Especially in the fall.

Unfortunately once I get the shotgun out I don't think about the fishing poles much anymore.
