I will definitely be there, along with quite a few others. This is a great time fellas, I highly recommend attending if you can. I'm also looking forward to the Friday night meeting at the Marriott. Good times.

 Re: Gator tail redfish tourney
I damn sure plan on fishing it. This is the first year I have actually not been offshore for the tournament. Deep South- Jugs Marina is about 30 minutes south of Houma if that helps you figure out how long of a drive it would be for you.

Why they making people go Friday night? I don't want drive back 1.5 hours home Friday night or pay for hotel when I only live 1.5 hr away

 Re: Gator tail redfish tourney
Sounds like we're not very welcome if it's meant for locals. Me and my buddy would love to attend but not staying at a hotel for a fishing tournament . Sounds like s good time though.

 Re: Gator tail redfish tourney
IF it was artificial only I'd enter & make the 5 hours drive!
I have been telling them for years they need separate divisions for live bait and artificial.

^ agreed !! Takes no skill to fish with live bait. Yep I'm not going , don't see why they can't have the meeting before the fishing tournament.

Lol can't argue with you on that. It's cool if they had the meeting but shouldn't be mandatory.

 Re: Gator tail redfish tourney
The meeting should be mandatory, it gives everyone a chance to ask questions and clarify any issues they may have with the rules, that way if rules are not followed, no one can say they didn't know. It keeps everyone on the same page and eliminates the gray area.

 Re: Gator tail redfish tourney
Yes but the night before ? Like they couldn't announce rules right before people head out ? Would take like 5 min. Oh well sounds like a good time maybe next year I'll be able to go both days if I'm off. I got family near that area just can't afford to burn vacation this year.

I wish you locals good luck. 7pm in Houma from hammond getting off the ups truck God knows how late. 2 hour drive later and I'm disqualified to fish. Thanks for making it easy on the working man that wants to do the owners tournament.

 Gator tail redfish tourney
I've hosted about 35 tournaments now and I've never once had a captains meeting. I put my personal cell phone for questions on the flyer and emails and let people contact me with questions. All rules clearly posted.
Every tournament you'll look at if you fish a lot is run differently. Most try and follow a basic standard of rules.
Not sure who does the weigh-in but I hope they are using a certified weigh master. Yes there's actually a 2 day class you attend.

Not so sure about the certified weigh master. Last year there were some rumblings about the tail pinch when measuring. There was no pinch tool used, so it was inconsistent at best...

 Re: Gator tail redfish tourney
I agree I dunno how they run things there but Iv never seen a fishing tournament run like this before. It is all in fun so it really shouldn't matter about the winner id be glad just to be fishing, but if your having a meeting the day before like its a bass masters elite tournament maybe you should follow through with an accurate weigh in .

 Re: Gator tail redfish tourney
Tournaments are only fun if everyone follows the same rules. That goes for the participants and those on the weigh team.

 Re: Gator tail redfish tourney
How would you regulate and artificial bait only category? Would you check the boats for shrimp and crabs before they launch? Would you check the live well if the mud boat has one? Check to make sure they don't have a cast net? I don't see how you could regulate it without a camera man in the boat... I do agree they need a pinch tool and possibly let participants know what brand they have in case we wanted to buy one to keep in the boat.

 Re: Gator tail redfish tourney
I have run a few tournaments and we always had a captains meeting. You would not believe the number of questions that you get with even basic rules to follow. They were all fundraisers and based on an "honors system" like this one. I used to tell people if you want to cheat to win then I hope you feel proud of yourselves.

 Re: Gator tail redfish tourney
I understand a captain meeting but why the day before why not just before boats leave out ? Iv never went to a tournament that had. Meeting the day before. I understand it's charity but make it legit rules. People will cheat no matter the cause .

 Re: Gator tail redfish tourney
Just saying it was early, really dark and pretty chaotic with everyone trying to put down and GTFO there.
Have you ever been to jugs launch? It's really not a place you want to have a meeting with a 100+ people at 4am getting ate up by gnats and mosquitoes. I'm not saying the meeting us right or wrong, just stating that it would not be good to do it at the launch.

Why don't they just measure by weight. The tournament me and my buddies fish weighs each fish to the 3rd decimal place.
