Fly fishing this morning at a pond close to home and caught this dude on a carp teaser. My only guess is that a bird got after him a long time ago and he managed to heal up. Aside from the giant void in his body the fish was perfectly healthy, and fought just like any other small bream I've caught. I've never seen anything like it before and thought it was pretty cool Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

i didn't even think about it possibly being a turtle.. Surely a spinning prop would cause enough trauma elsewhere in the body to kill a fish that small, right? I may be wrong. Like I said this is the first time I've seen anything like it. |

The pond I was fishing is private and there has never been a trot line run on it (The people who own it dug the pond themselves 30+ years ago). Another interesting fact that I just found out, the only bream that have been stocked in the pond are sunfish and copper nose. I know for a fact that fish is neither of those. |

That is the evidence of a cormorant bird. I hate these birds they will destroy a pond in no time. I've seen them in my pond by the hundreds. |

Them things are ruthless on fish. I heard some states were considering opening a season on them because they were destroying perch and walleye populations. I'm sure one could definitely take a good chunk out of a bluegill like the one above. |

My kids are more politically correct than I am. They call cormorants "Obama geese". |

That's from an osprey talon when they squeeze too hard and it cuts the fish. I've seen saltwater fish like that as well. There's an incredible photo I saw on Florida Sportsman of a redfish with no tail that healed and survived. |
