 Early season goose hunting
I recently got on a buddies lease that holds quite a few geese on it. Will be hunting dry millet fields. I've killed speckle bellies during regular duck season in flooded fields and know how to call and all of that. My question to you guys is what kind of decoy spreads should I be using for dry fields? This is my first time hunting fields for geese so I have no clue. I have enough cash laying around that I can go buy a few dozen windsocks and a dozen or so full bodies but I'd rather not have to buy that many unless I will just absolutely need 7-8 dozen decoys. So what do you guys usually do? Mostly just specks and snows with a few canadas here and there

 Re: Early season goose hunting
I've never hunted early specks buy our resident Canada season can be hit or miss with decoys. These local birds are smart because they see the same field day after day. I've killed them with 6-7 dozen full bodies out, 1/2 dozen out, and even 0 decoys out. Just got to watch the birds for a few days and know exactly where they're landing in the field and go from there.

 Re: Early season goose hunting
So is it more about location than decoy placement and size of spread? I know those two are both important but this is a learning curve for me so I'm just trying to get as much info as possible. I've read a few forums and they all vary depending on location and size of fields..

 Re: Early season goose hunting
Goose hunting is ALWAYS more about the location than the spread.

 Re: Early season goose hunting
All hunting is more about location, then anything else. As stated scout the area, and get an idea where the birds are feeding.
