 300blk
I'm looking to build an upper in 300blk for plinking and maybe a bit of hunting. Would doubt it will get used past 200yards. The question is how short is too short barrel wise. Bearing in mind your SBR rules don't apply, I only need to retain 30 inchs OAL.

 Re: 300blk
Any lengths would be fine. The 16" are capable of accuracy to 600, so as long as the rifle handles well, you'll probably be fine with any lengths you can get a hold of in that chamber.

Check out 300blktalk.com, all the information you'll ever need there. Personally, I've killed out to just over 100 yds with 8" barrel and 110gr Barnes black tips.

Walker think about the 458 SOCOM. Real thumper and very suppressor friendly. I really like mine. I have dropped some really nice deer with it.

 Re: 300blk
That 450 hits like a hammer, on both ends. Not what I would consider ideal for anything other than killing someone threatening my life. It's shootable, but not pleasant at all for more than a handful of shots.

I can not confirm nor deny if I killed both of these Deer and no it wasn't dark when I may or may not have shot them running at 200yds

What area. There's only about 3 degrees of separation in this place.

 Re: 300blk
I don't have any photos with mine on my phone, but when I get back home I will post. Mine is 8.250 barrel with a Samson 15" rail. When I put my can on only have an inch hanging out the hand rail.

 Re: 300blk
That's good thing about the Samson rail it's not a quad so no 1913 rails all over the place just the top. I use to like the quads but the last 5-6 rails I have gotten away from them myself. Main reason is the width of them, just like the slim rails better! I should be able to post a picture this weekend for ya.

Check out Midwest industries handguards. Can get a tube and add only the rails you want.

 Re: 300blk
I went 8.5" Noveske on my .300BLK build. Did quite a bit of research and anything over 8" you still get good velocity, etc. (what the cartridge was designed for). I will try to find the velocity table I used to make my decision and post it here for you. I use a Barnes VOR-TX ammo with the 110 GR TAC-TX bullet. Fiance shot a 200 lb boar with it in texas last year and it performed great

 Re: 300blk
300BLK will only run on Carbine length or shorter gas system, so that means carbine or pistol length gas only. It will not cycle reliably in a midlength according to Rsilvers. (correct me if I'm wrong). If you are getting a standard 16" barrel, then go with a Carbine length gas. If shorter than 16" (under 10", Pistol AR) then pistol length gas tube/block.

 Re: 300blk
The correct barrel length you're looking for is 9". You gain very little extra velocity past that.

 Re: 300blk
Anything after 9" is a waste of steel And it was designed for a pistol length gas system

 Re: 300blk
Nah, not a waste. That gun is very capable of great accuracy at 600 yards, but not out of the 9" with pistol length gas system. The 16" with carbine length does very well at that range.

 Re: 300blk
Finally got it built. .. That was a long draw out project.
Basic run down is its a 16 inch barrel with a 15inch keymod rail and waitaki engineering suppressor. Shoots nice with 110g v max home loads. Subs are the next load up. Got to go and thump some reds with it now.
Did the maths on it other day and I'm sure I can go as short as a 10inch barrel and still be a rifle not full into the pistol category.
