Does anyone have any experience wiring these lights up? I'm using 10 gauge wire and wiring them up in series (12total) and the lights are humming. Very annoying sound! They're only supposed to draw about 4 amps each. I tried running just 3 lights and still a humming sound but with only 2 lights wired up it is quiet? Any help is appreciated :)

Are the wires hot?

Not at all. I'm thinking the battery I'm using is goin to shit. It's a new boat I'm tryin to get setup and threw an old battery in to test everything. I'm gonna get some new batts next week and see if that cures the problem

I ran tiny little wire. Like 18 ga to all 12 of mine, and no humming. Wires never got hot etc.

IDK what to tell you. It's probably not the wire. Either the lights or the battery.

(12) 48 watt lights = 576 total watts/12 volt supply = 48 amps total

10awg is plenty big enough, you can run 145' of that gauge for that load

16awg would be ideal, good for 35'

18awg is fine as long as the total line length is less than 23' (fyi)

If it still does it with a fresh battery, it's the lights themselves.

Cool info. I'm not a math person myself. I'd just have to give the wiring a blind shot. If it produced fire then I would know to go a different route

Second thought, probably not the battery, most LEDs are good for 9v-36v

3rd coast killer... Is your lights on a 12 or 24 volt system?

Do you have them on a switch? If so take the switch out and connect straight to the battery and see if that makes any difference.

Ya I tried that. I eliminated the relay and breaker too. I emailed the eBay supplier and they said to wire up each light individually instead of in series. Gotta get more wire tomorrow and try that.

Well that sucks. I would like to know what the voltage drop was when adding each light while in series. I have run 4 on a 14 foot run of 12awg before with no problem but I didn't check voltage.

Series or parallel? Series wiring would not make much sense.

Good point CB ... Pigglet you did run + and - wire to each light and wire them red to + black to - right?. And CB just to be clear I wasn't referring to a series circuit just to a series of lights or a row of lights. I know what it looks like but that wasn't what I meant.

Ya I ran a 10g power and ground to them. I didn't run 2 wires back to the relay from each light just 2 wires along the deck and spliced in the lights on those 2 wires. That's what I mean by series

Could it just be the light. I have a light bar that does the same thing. I've never had any issues, I can only hear it when there is no noise around. Usually it's not even noticeable.

It could be. My light bar doesn't do it and my old boat had the 50watt customfitz LEDs and they were quiet

The lights are finally quiet! I had to put 2 lights on 1 circuit so now I've got 6 sets of wires running up to the deck for lights. Not sure why having 3 on a circuit made them humm but it does. Cheap Chinese lights I guess. Thanks everyone for all your help
