DDM I'm not cryin and I don't even belong to the sportman. I think I know how to hunt I kill my fair share out there . Just posting what was said. I think it's pretty nice to be able to hunt right out the boat that's all and think what there proposing will help anything.

they told us they only want to reserve 10% of it to non-motorized boats. i guess it sounds way better than 2000 f'n acres

Post subject:  Re: wax lake delta

Opening weekend needs to be a lottery, plain & simple. Waaay to many people and simply drives the first migrators off the delta. After that hunter numbers fall dramatically. This past weekend there were only 3 tents compared to 50 opening weekend probably only half of the houseboats had hunters. Next problem, and most important is there is NO DUCKS as per the LDWF's own aerial surveys, Nov. survey showed 5000 ducks and Dec. survey showed 13,000 ducks. Last year the Dec. survey showed 40,000 ducks, but the LDWF seems to think that they can fix low bag numbers by some kind of restrictions when it simply comes down to low duck numbers. As far as the birds going offshore, they have ALWAYS done that!!! They come in at night to feed during the typical high tide time and leave early in the morning when the hunters run them out. Back when we could park houseboats at the "Old Houseboat Canal" or Little Beach Pass the ducks were so loud at night you could hardly sleep. Since the mid nineties, the only time we really pounded the big ducks in the marsh was during weather days when the tide was high and opening weekends when the birds were in a routine of feeding during daytime in the marsh and it is still that way today. On certain tide events you can still catch birds coming into the bars to feed as the tide comes up. Other than that you got to be out in the bay to catch the birds going to raft. The only reason everyone hunts further out is becaus the delta has simply grown and the bars are further out.
I disagree with Stumpy, by not hunting 2-3 days a week the birds won't get in a routine of coming back into the marsh. I believe it takes longer for the birds to change their routine. Also, there would still be people riding around during the non-hunting days moving the birds around. I really believe the State needs to change the hunting splits, open the whole state at the same time and maybe have 3 splits to have more extended rest time for the birds.
Well, that's my opinion based on 13 years of hunting out there and this year being by far the worst, but unlike the LDWF, I know is comes down to duck numbers, nothing more nothing less.
Hey coondik, you gonna call me back, I got ya money!!!

I think they should leave it just the way it is. Those who know how to hunt it kill birds, Those who don't will eventually quit going. I also don't like more and more restrictions eventually they will turn it to a lottery only area and in my opinion that would really suck balls.

I grew up out there, and I will tell every mofo on this board that mm and the dumbazz with them have impacted that marsh alot more than they think.
Its not every owner but its every owner who runs through the reed patches and digs ditches through the marsh that dont need to be there. I am guilty of some things too. We all go threw that stage where we think we are forking supa man with these things. But in all honesty MM have changed that marsh.
The birds are never allowed to rest because people ride all day everyday up and down the ridges where before with outboard they could stay in the marsh and rest. Now the birds have so much pressure from people just being everywhere they were not before that they were pushed offshore...go ride about 10 miles out da cut and go see a few thousand birds rafted up. and they wont move until its dark.
Its not the motors themselves that caused these problems it was the owners who did it.
I was in the marsh the whole week before opening day, and there were thousands and birds wensday it realy did look like the old day. thursday more people showed up and it was rare to a see a outboard that day in the marsh. friday there were 1/2 the birds the day before. And by opening light there wasnt a bird left in that marsh.

Keep in mind I own a pd, I've hunted there and still do for a long time. And I realy do hope they ban mm from that wma......the pirogue idea is unique and damn good idea but, it needs to stop completely

I do agree with you on some things. I've hunted that place for quite a few years myself. I think they should restrict hunting after 200 all season and restrict boat traffic after 200. The reason I don't like the pirouge deal is I have a handicap child who will be hunting with me out therein the next few years can't really do it out of a pirouge or small flat boat.

Post subject:  Re: wax lake delta

If the LDWF restricts afternoon hunting, the birds may come in earlier in the day with the tide, but they will still go back out to the bay early in the morn, net change on limits taken NONE:(

I guess your right but we have been doin pretty dam good out there. Yeah we are working harder than previous years , but still doing pretty good.

Post subject:  Re: wax lake delta

it was proposed to do the 2:00 time everyday but the hunters arguments was that they hunted the tide.
best bet would be 3-4 hunting days with 0 percent boat traffic within certain boundries for the hole season.

Not sure what works, I will say I hunt a refuge in La that restricts mud motors, only allows hunting on tues thurs Sat and Sun, only allows hunting till noon and only allows hunting on half of the refuge. It is much better hunting than the wax. Alot less people, alot less pressure and alot more birds.

I say make it hard for people to get there. The harder it is the less people will go. Only people with a true love for the sport will continue to duck hunt.

Hell, ban mud motors air boats and mud boats for all duck hunting thoughout the US. Restrict hunting days thoughout the US and I bet we will see some major changes in a few short years. Not because of the mud motors, but because there would be a major reduction in the amount of hunters. This would seperate the men from the boys.

Maybe we can get obama to create another useless bill to give everyone a 6000.00 check and a free pirouge in trade for your mud motor.

Post subject:  Re: wax lake delta

i don't think that mm's hurt anything in the marsh.

i do think that joyriding the delta is probly the biggest reason the ducks go raft offshore.

i think yall are all worring about nothing. there will be no duckhunting in 20 yrs anyway, cept for resident ducks. then u can do whatever u want to and i won't matter.
