Post Starting a bowfishing charter
Thinking about starting a bowfishing charter as a side job, the other two local guys around here have big airboats rigs that are very nice, I was thinking of getting a prodigy rig set up and only take around 3 people when I go. I would ask less than what they are because I am not the scale of them, thinking of trying to get only like 4 or 5 trips a month just to make some side cash and pay for a boat. I'm thinking 125 a person all inclusive. Does this sound like a good deal or should I just leave it up to the big boys?

First off, do you have/lease private marsh to bowfish on? Are you able to put the customer first? Are you able to produce fish, just about every trip? There's a lot more to it than taking people on the water and getting paid. You gotta take care of your people, ensure that you will have returning customers. Go out your way for them so word of mouth goes around. Also, how are other people supposed to keep making money doing it if you start doing it for half their price? If you have land, good with people, and can put people on the fish all the time, then go for it. But you may be in over your head for that.

Also, don't forget, you gotta get the boat, lights, rack, bows, ice chests, captains license, and more if you are serious about it. There's a lot of up front costs.

This amazes me that people think being a fishing guide is so easy. Yeah all you need is a boat and a license, but its much more than that. It cost a lot of money to get set up, don't forget insurance. Best thing to do is get in with the guys already doing it, most bow fishing rigs have deck hands, ask if you can deck hand for a while and learn the business and get to know everybody and eventually they will send a few trips your way. Never, Never, Never give any of their customers your number, if they want to fish with u, tell them to call the other guys and request u. Eventually people will start calling u from recommendations. Good luck.

My suggestion is to ease into the business slowly. Let your work and performance dictate your success.
