I need some information. We are having a fair at our church and in a way to bring more people to the fair, we were thinking of having a garfish rodeo or even better a catfish rodeo (we could use the catch for frying to sell on friday night, garfish would probably not be a big draw. ) Can we even have a catfish rodeo? Never heard of one. But we would have an entry fee and then weigh in right before the band starts at the festival.

Anyone ever do this? Dumb idea? Good Idea? Make any money and bring in any interest? Any ideas?

Blind River Bar does a Garfish rodeo every year. One of the biggest days of the year for them. They fry the Garfish right after cleaning them and sell plates. I've never seen any left at the end of the day. Prizes are for most weight, biggest fish, and biggest trash fish. It is limited to 50 jug lines per boat.

Voodoo where are you located?

That sounds like a good idea to have the weigh in before the band starts.

Blind River bar has been doing one for 20+ years. I'm not sure if they sell the fried fish though. They used to give it away, and there is never any left. There is also one at Black Lake Club on the same weekend. Most people enter both. I fished in one on the Atchafalaya delta last year.
If you can get on Facebook and promote it, people will come! I drove 2 hours to fish the Atchafalaya one.

And they are definitely not trash fish or not to me anyway. They just get a bad rap because they are a pain in the ass to clean.
