Firm evidence that short stopping, high water and warm weather have put a hurt on the migration to Louisiana. Not my figures but my barber’s. We don’t keep count but its been slim pickings over here. |

I was at last years numbers for birds 2 weeks ago... But I know the vast majority of my area has struggled. I know everyone is touting the "short stop" heated pods, things. But i really don't think thats the reason. If it was heated ponds we would see a gradual decline, like we have been seeing, of birds not coming down. Not this drastic change in one year. Hell even the guys up north where the heated ponds, and flooded corn are aren't killing. From West to East. Its not just the South. I think its weather based. There is no snow (or hasnt been) in the lower 48 all season. The snow line is still up into Canada. Couple the lack of weather with not much of a hatch of ducks or geese, and you are dealing with stale, low numbers, and very smart mature birds. It will be interesting to see if this front changes anything, but I believe its too little too late. |
