24v is a little over kill for that boat. Mine does great with a minnkota edge 45 or 55 12 volt. One less battery to haul around and charge. Might be hard to tell from the pics but I mounted a female plug on the front of the boat and ran some wire from it back through the front storage box to the battery which is under the front deck by the gas tank. I then connected the male end of the plug to the foot control of the trolling motor. It makes for easy and quick removal of the trolling motor for riding or duck season. |

I have a 24v 80# on my 1854 and won't ever go back to 12v. Lots of vegetation where I am and need the extra power to get through it. The main reason is the run time on 24v, fish all weekend without recharging. Don't go cheap on the plug or wire. Get marine grade 6awg and you'll be able to put the batteries where ever. I ended up with mine towards the rear on the opposite side of the trolling motor to offset the weight. I'll dig through my pictures and post. I also put an onboard charger in so all I have to do is plug it in and forget it. |

Thanks for the input guys. Just got back from offshore but im still on the fence between the 70 ipilot and 55 ipilot. Price isnt that different but i know ill need to add another 500. Im leaning more towards the 70 so if i ever get a fiber glass boat i can just quick release and move it but gah dam it would be simpler with just 1 battery and the 55. Depends on how much you use it... I won't ever go back to 12v on anything more than a 17' boat. |

I won’t never go back to a 24 volt !!Went with a 36 volt and it will go through anything and plus I can fish all summer without having to charge the batteries,It has 225 lbs thrust and will do 16 mph on high.good luck |

At least 24volt. The spotlock feature on the ultrexx or ulterra is the greatest thing for people who bass fish since the baitcast reel. It’s amazing. No need for talons or anchor of any type. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
