I got Rem M887 Nitro Mag. The black cause the store didn't have the camo and I didn't feel like waiting on getting a gun. Is it possible to have the gun painted? I know it may chip and such, but what paints would work best? The gun is completely synthetic, so I wouldn't see the issue with paint on the barrel. Any thoughts? |

not sure how the paint would adhere to the coating. my guess would be a good primer first then paint of choice. i know krylon makes a paint for plastic and stuff. you may be able to use that for a base. just try a lil on a non visible part first. let us know how it turns out! ![]() ![]() |

If you have a gander mtn close by, they do the custom camo jobs. The good ones like new guns come with. If I remember correctly it was not too expensive. Prices are on their website. |

Seems this stuff works great. http://www.krylon.com/products/camoufla ... echnology/ Wonder what bore cleaners and solvents would do to the paint. This one http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=1117 ... DE_reg__II says it's OK with solvents and cleaners. |

DAMMIT BOYS! Now I am going to have to paint the 870 Supermag. I have been wanting to do it, but the moving parts were suspect. Those links answered all my questions. All I need is the primer and a good clearcoat. This is going to be fun. |

Seems my topic got a few others interested. Thanks for all the links. There's alot of good advice out there. One more weekend of hunting and then the gun comes down. I think I gonna wait till the weather warms up a bit. |

I did a few searches to see more about this. If you follow this guys instructions and use the Krylon spray, primer and a clear coat, this paint job will take a beating. I can attest to the Krylon Camo as I used it on my boat for the stencil work and it does not flake or peel and holds up very well. I am going to do my 870 supermag as well. |

I went ahead and painted my 870 supermag. I couldn't resist.I followed the directions that Pintail58 posted up and I think it came out pretty clean. When I got to the part of brushing in more reeds I just left it alone as I am not that artistic. The entire stock was black synthetic and the barrel was matte black. I elected not to paint the trigger and trigger housing as there are some moving parts I decided to just leave as is. The slide tube I left as is because I feel like it would have inhibited movement of the pump and the paint would have worn off anyway. I looked as some manufacturer's pics and most leave the slide tube unpainted, some leave the trigger and housing unpainted as well. All it costed me was the clear coat, and the auto primer. I already had all the other Krylon colors. Total cost was probbaly $8. It took me two evenings to do it as I had to let the coats dry in between painting. Probably in all maybe two hours of cleaning, prepping, taping and painting. I don't know how it will hold up to hunting abuse, but for the most part the exterior is now weatherized. The stencil pattern was just a handful of Johnson grass. If I can do it, anybody can. |

That is all I want to do too. Break up the black solid of the gun. I think you did a great job. I'll be doing mine once the heat and dryness comes back here. My son wants his Mosberg Mav done also. |
