Has anyone ever used any of those LED flood lights for bow fishing or flounder gig rigs?

whats the standard for watts or lumen when it comes to selecting the lights?

What about beam size?

in my experiences, so far, a white light is not as good as an old fashioned work light. the glare from a white light affects how you will be able to see fish. i had thought about switching to some flouresents(sp) that i use on my riding arena, but decided against it. i used the 300 or 500 watt bulbs in theses lights.

wait for Jace to chime in. But we just use 500watt halos and they seem to get the job done. Wev tried Metal Halides before but its hard to beat the ol halos. Just my .02. Like i said, wait for Jace to answer or shoot him a PM. He seems to be pretty well schooled in Bowfishin :lol:

HPS are great for muddy water. Halide's for clear and deep. Both are brighter than the halogen with the same ratings. The 150 hps are about as bright as a 500 halo, and you will see many more fish in the hps lights. Hard to beat the price on halos though.

LED's do not produce neer enough lumens to bowfish
i have only used halogens - never been able to justify the cash for HPS
my setup consisted of 5 500 watt halogens and i cannot imagine bowfishing with anything less - and they were cheap too - $8 at menards

Just something to keep in mind. You need a bigger genny to run the halos. You can run the smaller hps lights on a smaller genny with the same output, and better penetration in the muddy water. Just something to consider if you are buying both lights and a generator. Lights are more for the hps, but genny is more to run halos.

I run halos, 13 500 watt fixtures with 350 ultra bulbs (which they don't make anymore).
They are cheap, so if one breaks, no big deal.

im running 6 300w Halos on a 2000w honda gen.

im about to redo my light setup in the front and have been thinking about going to the HPS's
not so much to get more lights, but if i could get the same lumens on the water with less pulling
watts, i could quiet my gene down wich would be nice.

like to see where this goes :D

I run 9 300W halo's on a honda 3000W generator that sit on a removable deck that sits about 2-3 ft up off the water and its plenty bright enough for me.

I run 8 300 watt halos on the sidesof my deck 2 300 haloson the back on my polling platform so I can shoot while driving and 4 500 halos on the front of deck on a 6000 watt gen. No problems yet
I also wired the lights every other one so if I have a problem with one circuit I can still fish. I have two 25 watt
breakers on my gen.

i run 12 halo's on a 4000 pek. 3500 running gen. 8 are 300w 2 are 250w and 2 are 150w. ill get some pics in the next few days for ya

I'm not an expert lol... but Like everyone has said... (stick with Halogens they are cheap!) When you break one running through some trees you won't mind coughing up 10 bucks for a new one. I personally run High Pressure sodiums and if you don't mind paying the high price they are worth it IMO. They seem to do just a little better in muddy water.
