It's killing me I haven't been turkey hunting yet. My old man has been hunting them for 2 weeks back in MS. He's called up 4 good toms so far. Our season opens here April 1st. Can't wait. I dropped a nest egg on turkey hunting crap last night in Cabela's and got all my TSS stuff in the mail to start reloading. Plan on patterning it next week after work. Hope it's as deadly as all these guys claim. If so, I might have to try some of this stuff thru a 20ga on geese. Curious if the rest of you guys turkey hunt? I'm normally on the lake chasing a SAL, but I've gotten the turkey bug again this year. Plan on hitting OK and KS besides TX maybe MS if all my plans work out this year. |

They are strutting like crazy here in Indiana and Western Ky. All over the place. Nothing finer than a a big gobbler kill in the morning and finding a bucket of morels when walking out of the woods... except a maybe a 70 pound flathead....or a cooler full of crappie Randy |

There's no turkeys in MS! ![]() ![]() No grand slam here. I'm waiting for the old man to retire. Turkey hunting is his thing. I'd like for us to take one or two weeks to try and complete the slam one year. |

I go once or twice a year. I like it a lot. Actually, having a bird come through the mountain laurel gobbling and spitting and drumming and his head is changing colors like some psychedelic trip is about the most exciting thing this side of nekkid time. It's too addictive. Plus, I usually fill most of my tags in the fall shooting hens for lunch. ![]() Crappie are biting and stacking up under the docks, shad are running, catfish and rocks are right behind them then the Drum come into the bay and then the cobia and spades and AJs and flounder and trout and the smallmouth get right on the river and the flatheads turn on Then it's dove season. |

Patterning results from today! ![]() ![]() ![]() Believe everything you read and see about the TSS shot. I was skeptical until I shot some myself this afternoon. Impressive is an understatement on how this stuff patterns. This was the first run and only thru one choke. I'm sure we could dial it in even more with different chokes and straight 9 or 8 shot to increase our pellet counts. First was a 1 5/8oz load of 1oz of TSS #9's and 5/8oz of Hevi-Shot #7 1/2's. 559 pellets in this load total. 286 in a 10" circle at 40 yards. Next was a 2oz load of 1oz of TSS #9's and 1oz of TSS #7s. 527 pellets total in this load. 327 in a 10" circle at 40 yards. I can't wait to dial up some 5 shot for geese this winter. ![]() |

Here is how I feel about turkeys: I would take EVERYTHING I own deer and duck related and THROW it all under a fast moving semi to hunt turkeys!!! I live to turkey hunt. My son and I doubled on opening day ( his first ever!!!). I have hunted almost 20 days thus far and have many more to do. Headed to Missouri first of May to help a buddy out with his hunting show, call for him and promote my turkey calls while I am at it. And hopefully get one of my own while I am there |

Skip it. If you duck hunt, fish and like women, you really have year-round suffering covered. I know misery loves company, but dammit you have to draw the line somewhere. Get up at 3am, walk around in thorn thickets until the sun comes up, then go find a chigger nest to sit in and maybe find a snake to bite you. Walk 50-11 miles and pretend like the bird walked off with hens which is what happens most of the time anyway. Now you are a turkey hunter. ![]() Then one of those ugly, stupid simbitches double gobbles at about 15 yards inthe laurels and you just come unglued and it's as good a flock of ducks pitching in your decoys or a 10lb bass stomping a spinnerbait 10' from the boat. Then you're ruint. Stay away. |

Finally got on some birds and got to use that TSS 2oz of #9 and #7. Killed two birds in one shot. More than impressed with the results. These birds came in strutting, gobbling, running, etc. I bet they came from 500-600 yards as my buddy and I were working another bird in the field. They were about 300 yards away when they entered the field and we could see them. Took them about a minute to close the distance. Awesome hunt! |

Forgot all about this. Went hunting for 3 days, got all sleep deprived, and forgot to post some pics. I'll thru to throw them up tonight. We killed 6 in 3 days. It was freaking awesome. I didn't pull the trigger, but I got to call in 4 or the 6. Pretty neat stuff to watch two buddies lay down 4 toms! ![]() ![]() |
