Post No Papers
A good friend of the family has a BA meat dog but definetly has the qualities that it would take to run hunt test and learn hand signals etc and be a great dog. My dog is registered and is on her way to be a fine dog. But his dog is not registered and has no papers. He has done DNA test and it is 100% lab. For the past 3 months he has been trying to get me to say yes and tellin my parents to talk me in to lettin them breed in year or two down the road. I just dont know if its a good idea on my part. I know they would make good pups but i would only keep one and it is really going to be a pain to sale those pups and break even or make a buck or two. What do yal think? I do not want to ruin the blood line of my dog.

If you are lookign to get a few bucks off the Pup's it wont matter... If they are registed you get more money for them. You have to make that call.

Try to look at this angle:
Take the two least desirable aspects of each dog and decide if you want a pup like that. Not every dog makes it as a great one. Genetics are the only way we can even try to predict the outcome of a litter. If the stud isn't registered, how do you know if his breeding is good or if any other dogs with his breeding are worth a sheet? He might be the shining star out of the whole family. I say only breed to a dog that has produced good dogs in other breedings. There are enough backyard bred pets out there. Do some research and find a reputable breeder and breed to a dog that demands a good price for the pups...........my$.02

Best hunting lab I have had is off my unregistered male. She has more desire than is normal and LOVES to hunt. It was not a planned breeding but a boat ramp drive-by rape. If it happened I wouldnt kill yourself but I would go w/ papers. Much easier to get rid of pups & get some $ for your trouble.

I personally don't get into the bloodlines and all that when getting a lab, but from a standpoint of being able to sell the pups it is definately going to be easier and more profitable to find a stud with papers.

Why?

Just for a few bucks??

Would not be worth it to me. Pups are a lot of hassle, too many good dogs WITH papers.
