Silver, red, and charcoal labs are not true pure breds. They have a diluted gene and are being passed off as yellow or chocolate to get into the akc. Their are some good threads om DHC about them.

i had two yellow females that were bat shit crazy

one hunted hard but didnt listen good, the other didnt hunt and would chase shadows

The choc is very high strung and doesnt listen. The black listens awesome but he is gun shy

Workingman Gundogs out of Palestine, Tx has great dogs and at a very reasonable price. I have trained many of his dogs and have quite a few buddies in my hometown that have gotten pup from him because of how well my dog turned out. Every one of their dogs is doing great. And all of them have a great, calm temperament and a desire to please and hunt as good as any dog I've been around. Lots of natural ability in these dogs.

I my mind it does not matter the color of the dog. It is about putting the time in training and hunting.

As for as the silver labs they are beautiful dog and can be just as smart as any other color dog. I have proven people wrong by breeding and raising silver labs that are titled dogs. Again it is what you put into it.

Thats my thing. After having a black and a yellow Brit, it is hard to go away from them. They are just really pretty dogs with great features. I'm not sure another dog could take the punishment of my two kids that this yellow has taken. So calm and goes with the flow.

They are extremely smart easy to train and have strong desire to hunt and retrieve. British dogs are calmer and a little smaller than american labs an big plus in a pirouge and blind . To the OP: You buy a pedigree and pick a pup. Get with the folks from Central La HRC and ask some questions and don't be in a rush. You're making an investment, so shop carefully.
