Post Suggestions on the remote sit.
I am training my pup and have him now through force fetch and we are doing well on force to pile. I am trying to move to sit while away or as he is going to pile, but every time I use the whistle and check cord he wants to automatically come back to heal. He will sit on whistle when close to me or if there are not bumpers involved, but when he goes toward pile and I try to stop him to cast him, he will want to return.
Any tips on the remote sit command? I'm putting in the time daily, and am committed to getting him well trained.

This is all yard work. stay in the yard until he has it down.
Start with a short, 6' lead. "Sit" and back away.
Longer lead, "sit" and back away. Work to issue the "sit command and drop the lead as you back away. Always use a command to break him off "sit" and don't allow him to move until that other command to stop the sit is issued by you.
pup "sit" pup "back" pup "here" what I am saying is "sit" is "sit' is "sit" until I say do something else.
Then send out to 10' on a check cord and "Sit"
Return dog every time to the exact spot where he was when you issued the "Sit" command
To proof your work, once he has a good understanding of "sit" have him "sit" and try to pull him off sit with the check cord. He must resist your pulling. He must only come if commanded to "come" Remember, "sit" is "sit until told to do otherwise.
Then longer distances with "sit" as you walk away
Return dog to the "sit" spot every time he moves to you and "sit" him
once that is solid
over lay the whistle and voice "sit"
then add in bumpers
Remember short distances are your friend. Every time you add distance the compliance will erode. Return dog back the spot where you issued the command and the spot where he was when you issued that command.
What training program are you following? Both Lardy and Grams do a good job on "sit" in their DVDs

Thanks dd I've done all if the above, and when not going out to a bumper or mark he will sit when away from me. It is only when a bumper is involved that he will not put ass to ground with out wanting to come to my side. It is as though he associated sit (or one blast of the whistle) with no. That for me is the confusing part.

An easy way if not done yet is ta go back ta baseball. Sit him on the mound and before ya cast him blow the sit whistle. Do this in close proximity at first so ya can be quick ta correct him. Then back yerself up slowly throughout training sessions.
