Post Looking for a new lab pup
Lost my old dog at the end of last season, so I’m looking into getting a new lab puppy to have ready for next year. I need some help/advise locating a good kennel within an hour or so of Baton Rouge (If that’s possible/will go further if necessary).

There is a bunch of people breeding labs now and I would like one with a good hunting background by both parents. I also would like the breeder to do some of the training to get the dog on hand signals and so on.

Thanks for the help.

Ace retrievers in Mississippi. They have British labs which run 40 to 50 pounds. Seen 2 started dogs from there. I will be getting one from there pretty soon

Realize though you're going to pay a premium for the "British lab" name, and the training of a typical British style does not use E-collars, force fetch, and a few other differences. this means it'll cost more, take longer, and in my opinion not turn out as cris or precise. Look into the kennel and learn whether you want that or not.

Also, with all the yahoos who have started duck hunting in the past 5 years or so the number of puppy mills has shot thru the roof (due to increased demand for labs) . I don't get my dogs thru kennels, but for those who do, I would visit the facility and check their shit before buying.

I have purchased both of my labs from family friends. The first was a yellow that unfortunately was hit by a car, he was a bad motherfucker though. Now i've got Gump, I got him from two family friends who had bred the same 2 dogs for 2 generations. I had hunted over both parents and it was kind of dream come true to get one of their pups. I'll pm you my trainer info real quick though

Search on Retrievertraining.net or duckhuntingchat.com

Make sure you pay more upfront for good health clearances and a strong pedigree.

I don't use a specific kennel, I just wait for a breeding that looks good, and go from there. With all the idiots breeding these days, titles and health certs ensure it's from a smart breeder not just looking to make a quick buck. PM me if you want actual suggestions of some nice litters

Yeah , I agreed with above . Where are you located . There is a litter in North Carolina with great bloodline . The guy is a pro and hunter that is a breeder . Bluesky has his number , you could PM him for it . Not all of the pups are spoken for , got blacks left . Bluesky got a pup from him last year and the pup is being trained by him . He's very pleased with labman from what I know . Hope this helps !
