Post Remote Sit
I have a 10 month old pure British female Lab. This is my first duck dog that I'm actually training myself though she will go off to get "finished". I have read water dog, and train based off of the Chris Akin "Duck Dog Basics 1 & 2. She fully understands whistle commands and will sit instantly at heel or near by. My problem comes in when I try to send her back, remote sit her, and cast. Sometimes called the "baseball diamond drill". I can heel her, whistle for her to sit, she will stay and take the cast but if I send her back she either wants to continue back to hunt her nose, or return to me and sit at my side. The video series doesn't really mention any exercises to master remote sit at any distanced. It simply shows the dog accepting the command flawlessly.

I have tried the "fake throw" drill where I pretend to throw a dummy, when she gets some distance away show her that I still have it, remote sit her and then throw when she obeys command. Does this drill flawlessly except now shes become wise to my not really throwing the dummy and will only run 10 or so feet out and wait for a throw or command.

Any help or exercises to address my concerns? Thanks!!

First of all , your are moving to fast thru your program with your dog not really learning the lesson . That would be the whistle sit command isn't solid . You shouldn't be playing the baseball drill yet until your pup has a full understanding that his ass hit the ground when the whistle is blown at any distance away . Highly recommend that you back-up your training and don't worry about hand casing until your dog is ready to do so and stop moving so fast . If not , you'll have a huge hole in your training program because your trying to fly thru your program .
