You train with the guys over at Hugo, Mn on the Kelly Farm? I have trained there a couple times. Ran the Obeleander HZP last fall there too. Good guys and great training areas. Don

Re: Drahthaar
My 4.5 month old female loves the water. I will primarily be hunting waterfowl so this makes me very happy.

Yeah, Haus is pretty timid around the water yet. Its kind of frustrating!

ducksearch12.jpg Picture of Josey and the crew after her standing ovation, 12 in Duck Search at the 1st annual Obeleander at Hugo, Mn. Left to right, Dan Ritter, Cindy, my wife, Josh Ritter with the fat guy being me. She made a heck of a run that day, tracked the drake right through the crowd on the bank and never missed a beat. Finely got the duck around for a shot and delivered to hand. I don't know how long she push the duck but I am sure at least a 1/2 hour. klouspigeon623144.JPG Klous working on steadiness training. I would add the Klous is real strong on water as well. His longest 2, successful duck searches have been 52 minutes and 27 minutes respectively and both birds brought to hand.
Good luck with your new pup. Don

How well do the Drahthaar's handle the cold I live in Texas so it doesn't get too cold.

It don't get cold enough in Texas to bother a DD. The heat, that's another story now.

Re: Drahthaar
Heat is bad news they do have a thick coat, cold is a non-issue for the most part unless it's really cold and you can't get them out of the wind. As long as you have a blind for them to get out of the wind you are good.

Re: Drahthaar
I have two wirehairs. Latest one has a short coat, tolerates cold but no insulation (fat). Agree above, must be out of the wind. Love the water though.

I'm looking at purchasing a pup in the spring. I need a dog for waterfowl and tracking deer and reading about these has made my mind up.
