Gettin a dog to run a straight line
Need some advice /tips in bout to start force to the pile with my 10 1/2 month old lab my buddy dog is a lil older than mine he's been forced to the pile knows hand signals and all that but for some reason he won't run a straight line back so I'm looking for some advice for both of us so he can correct his dog and I can have mine right from the get go and not have to go back over it later on like he is having to

Re: Gettin a dog to run a straight line
I've heard stories of people working their dogs in ditches for this reason.

My buddy already did that his dog will run 200 + yards in a ditch there and back and never come out the ditch but when in a open field he wants to angle off big time

Re: Gettin a dog to run a straight line
Just put one in the middle of the pile to give him something look at
And should you mark blinds with this also to build his confidence

Re: Gettin a dog to run a straight line
No young dog just starting transition runs straight lines! That is the whole point of transition. It is when you move from the yard to pattern blinds that you begin to teach the dog to go straight, and it's usually very ugly early on. You need the pick a good system, and there are several, that take you and the pup from yard work through transition. There is no magic drill.

I like the poly stake. I used driveway reflectors with a small ribbon of survey tape in the past.
