I used to live in SC when I was in my 20s. I was always scared as hell to put my dog in the water when we were duck hunting. Nothing ever happened, but I hear dogs are like candy to gators.

I know a lot of you guys hunt down south. Anybody ever lose a dog hunting early? What are the "rules" to hunting gator infested water?....besides have more than one dog

Gators need temp of above 70° to digest food. Sometimes they will kill there prey at night or in the mourning and not eat it till it warms up later. It is safe once your highs for the day or only reaching 70° & your lows are dipping down into the 50's.
