Post subject:  Kennal time

Was just wondering if any of you guys keep your dogs in a kennal all the time acept when you are training , some others have told me they keep there dogs away fromthere kids and famliy untill they are trained pretty good what is yall's thougts on this. Does the interaction change how you train.

It's my opinion (and take it for what it's worth) but I believe in socializing a dog as much as possible as soon as possible.

My pup stays inside and lays with us on the couch, only time we lock her up is in the house at night and while at work.

Well my pup is 7 months and he is only in the pin when we go out of town. Follows my 7yr and 2yr old around everywhere. If he rides in the rhino then he will lay under it no matter where we at until its time to load up again. Like another member of the family.

Our dogs live in the house and train every day. OB training happens every day, all day. Socialization is a MAJOR part of training and is so important when the pup is young. Play time is one thing and training "work" time is something else and they learn that early on. Duckdon

Gotta agree with shafer and what everyone else says. But then again, I don't hunt with my dog. But he does have retrieving skills and even swims in the pool with other kids and doesn't claw them to death.
I believe dogs should be had as a family member and not just an animal that you want around when needed.

Mine stays in an outdoor kennel, when i was training her i only pulled her out to work with her. Hung her leash on the outside of the kennel, she got into a mind set that anytime i pull that leash down off the kennel and put it on her that it was time to train. I've done this to both my dogs and it has worked out flawlessly Now that she is trained she has alot of social time with the Fam. But if i hang that leash on the kennel to this day she knows what it means. Just my opinion, its a sort of mindset for them at a young age

Remember, no 2 dogs act the same way, so find something that works for the both of you. every one has a differnt way to train just use the answers and ideas you get from here to help you along your way.

Mine are in the house but they have a "place" that I put them on and expect them to stay. Got them on beds next to my feet right now. Going outside in a while and they will be on the platforms. Almost never are they free to roam around. Started at a very young age.

I like almost all the answers giving wish people around here would think the same way. When asked how i got my dogs listening so well. I have always responded with that dog wants to be your best friend so let it and treat with the respect that you would want to be treated with by others.
